Handled an Opinel #8 knife for first time today. Very sharp I want one but any one have problem with blades not locking.

Never had a problem with a vibroloc not vibrolocking.....

For me they are good but I've had some that suffered from front and back blade play and up and down play even after the Throat lock mechanism was in place, for being cheap enough I didn't shed croc tears, unfortunate all the same

The ring lock works fine and in a time when thick blades are all the rage, it's one of the thinnest, sliciest ones you'll find. I was cutting through thick blackberry bushes recently with my Opinel No. 15 Slim, to clear a footprint for a ladder, so I could pick fruit from a tree. I used it because it was what was in my pocket and it did an outstanding job. Some day, I'm going to have to embrace the madness and get a hold of an Opinel No. 13.

Lock works fine. The worst that can happen is it working loose with repeated use. You use it a lot and the lock turns and loosens a bit.
Never had on work all the way to loose and I have a habit of using my thumb to check/retighten it as I go.
Not really an issue, I'm kind of anal.

I don't bash on mine, but my 6s, 7s, and 8 are all quite solid. They shine for me in two main ways, they are intentional, and therefor far more likely to get a pass in semi-permissive environments, cheap enough to not hurt if they don't. At their cost they are of a quality and consistency that they are good baselines for testing on. I'd love to get Mule Team's by the dozen to run experiment's but that's not going to happen, but I can compare three or four opinel sixes with different finishes and grits or angles to just see how they do.

You won’t regret the 13. My kids call it the watermelon knife. Mine has been on many picnics

The locking ring on my No. 8 carbon is very secure. To keep the wooden handle from swelling and binding the blade, I melted in a dollop of Johnson's floor wax in the blade slot and worked it around the pivot and the outside of the handle.
