while I am sure having a higher end steel is nice, I think it defeats the value purchase I get from Opinel, affordable and a good slicer and decent sandvik stainless or a basic carbon steel. But I am glad we have a choice if one wants A different blade steel. The collection.

My favorite Opinel is the limb saw, and I really appreciate that it locks closed.
Locking closed is an underrated feature.
Nice..
Who makes the S90V versions?
Indeed, we call it the "coup du savoyard"There is a thing called the "Opinel Knock." Apparently it is a common occurance in Europe. You unlock the lock ring and rap the "pointy end" of the handle on a hard surface and it opens the blade just enough to get ahold of it. I heard about this from a friend who was in France and witnessed a bunch of guys around a table - they all pulled out their Opies and rapped them. I tried it and it works!
“Coup de Savoyard” is the term I have seen here for that technique. Just last night, I demonstrated it to my lady friend, who was very patiently listening to my disquisition on Opinels. I may have been preaching to the choir, as she produced her No.8 out of her purse, with perfect timing. There is a thing called the "Opinel Knock." Apparently it is a common occurance in Europe. Yes, the No. 2 is so small it’s almost a joke. I bring it places I’m not sure I can bring a knife because it’s the least threatening knife in the world. It’s much better than nothing, but you can definitely appreciate why they stopped production on the No. 1.Anyone seriously tried the no.2 or no.3?
I think the 4 hits all the right notes for me

So I bought a #12 just for grins and giggles.Smallest one I've got is the 5 in inox, I cant imagine going any smaller. OK maybe just 4 fun and collecting..
The #5 is just at 6cm so that makes it legal according to international airport laws, so its a great cheap travel knife. Worst thing about loosing it would be that I have to put my own edge on the new one.
that's a fun opinel.So I bought a #12 just for grins and giggles.
What's the issue? Fold it. Turn the lock, and lock it.Yall convinced me to get the no. 5 instead of the 4, so I bought the last 2 on their site, stainless
Now all I need is a leather sleeve, not risking it riding commando in my pocket
