The good thing about Opinel knives is that they don't care for Opinions, Supersteels, and other shenanigans.
They will unpretentiously cut what needs to be cut for a long time without any issues - strop and repeat.
And you can get like 5 of them for ~100 dollars US, lose 4 of them and still have enough blade to unpretentiously cut things for the duration of your life.

At some point I will expect the negative Nancy demon to be expelled from OP’s body. Perhaps in the form of rank flatulence.

Thanks ;) I used java brown leather dye, which has a slightly red hue to it. Love those padauk handles (especially when they age) but I think I prefer the satin blades vs polished.

I will add one negative to this. I've bought three Opinels so far and all three came with a terrible edge. Super easy to sharpen of course but a bummer each time.

Yeah, it’s not great, but lately the GECs that I’ve gotten have had comparable sharpening jobs, for instance the 2025 BF knife at almost 16x the cost of an Opinel.

I always expect to sharpen knives that come to me.

I bought an Ontario 6" boning knife two years ago and I'm still trying to get it sharp. The 10" slicer that I bought at the same time? Well, it will cut. So you honestly never know. My opies have never been at problem new or later.
