opinels are sweet......

I modded my #7s tip to a drop point with my dremel, I really like the new shape but I think I drew out the temper on the last 1/4 inch of the blade. Ah well, still a great knife.

Yea , with steel that thin you would really have to be careful using a powered tool to mod it.

As thin as the Opinel is , I would use an old stone to change the shape.

I was thinking at work today and had a great idea. . . Well, I think it's great anyway. . . ;) Ya know the locking carabiners with the spring loaded collar that you twist to open the gate? I was wondering what it would be like to have a high tech version of an Opinel with a spring loaded lock on it like the the gate on one of those carabiners. Don't get me wrong, I love the Opinels just the way the are, I was just kind of day dreaming and wondering if it would even be possible to make something like that. The carabiners probably use a circular spring which wouldn't work because it would block the blade from closing so the mechanism would have to be different. . . Anyhow, what do ya think? If I ever manage to get rich somehow (fat chance) I'll have to have one custom made for me!

I've got a #6, a #8 and a #10.

The #10 feels really good in the hand - I find its a great knife for laid back bushcrafting type stuff around camp.

The #8 is a good all-rounder - not too big, not too small. I edc a Delica but on the very odd occasion when I feel like something more rustic I go for the #8.

The #6 is for use around the sheeple - small and traditional looking, it scares only the very sheepiest of sheeple. Good thing is it still locks up like the larger models, whereas #5 and down are slipjoints.
