Opinion Please, blade choice?

1st design with the recurved clip point...that blade is a cutter...the other design is a dime a dozen...

Second design on the right. Recurve does not bother me but still prefer a straighter blade.

Just my .02, not worth much.
But, I personally do not like the recurve on a slip joint.
Wharnie is my favorite or Clip.

A.G.,
I have corresponded back and forth with you before on working knives. I have to say, in my opinion, as one who uses knives on a farm everyday, the Turkish clip would be more useful to me. That wharncliff is also a great feature. I would be very interested in putting one of those to good use!

I'm not a huge fan of sharpening them, but I LOVE cutting with them. Gotta go with the recurve.

I think the recurved clip compliments the functionality of the other two blades the best, so that is my vote. But from a sales perspective, given what I've seen during my time here on Bladeforums, most people have a knee-jerk disgust for recurves (the wussies don't know how to sharpen them) so I would guess you would probably be better off going with the Turkish clip.

Mr. Russell, I have to go with the turkish clip, though either could make me happy.

Speaking of dream knives Mr. Russell how about using a modern version of vascowear on one of your classics sometime. Not since Gerber "V" steel, and those are so rare you won't see them outside auction houses.

Tougher, and more wear resistant than D2. Can take Rc60-62 without chipping, etc. Not real corrosion resistant though. Regards. Joe L./Raleigh

It’s not that I can’t sharpen a recurve. With the right stone or ceramic, it’s an easy job. (I use these. http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_detail.html?s=SP701MF) But a stockman is an archetypal working man’s knife, and maintenance should be simple. “Simple” does not include buying a special sharpening tool for this one knife. A straight edged blade you can sharpen on a regular stone, without fuss or bother, is the way to go. Turkish clip for me.

Most folks I know really dislike a recurve, esp on a slip joint.

Blade profile selection would depend on the targeted buyer. As a casual knife user, I could easily become frustrated with sharpening a recurve. The relative difficulty, encountered by an end user, in maintaining a sharp and cosmetically pleasing edge might quickly be blamed on poor design or manufacture. As a knife nut, I can effectively sharpen a recurve but still tend to avoid them. In similar knives the recurve is visually more impressive. For long term practicality the straight blade is probably more user friendly. Recurve for show --- straight blade for go. OldDude1

I don't like much recurved blades. But i like the way this one is designed, really beautiful. I could be, one more time, wrong but it doesn't seem to me there are so much recurved blades on slipjoints. That's why #1.

For me, aesthetically, the first looks better. I like the lines on it.
Like somebody else said, it'll cut better and the dropped point is too common. This'll refresh knife designs nowadays :)
