Opinion Poll: Top 3 Manufacturers

Spyderco, Kershaw, Case: For Folders
ESEE, Benchmade, Ka-Bar: For Fixed blade
Leatherman, Victorinox, Gerber: For multi-tool

Yea I know I didn't listen to your rules....so take the first from each list and that could be it.

Kershaw/ZT, Spyderco, Condor Knife & Tool.
Based on:
customer service - have great customer service reviews, and all 3 have a presence in the forum and interact with their customers.
product quality - All 3 produce great knives and are solidly built
designs - variety of designs for different purposes, from EDC tasks to going to war with rabid koala bears.

For me:

Spyderco, Benchmade, and Cold Steel (Cold Steel has replaced Kershaw now, had a lot of bad fit and finish issues on my Kershaw's sadly).

Busse and Kin

Bark River Knife and Tool

Kershaw/ZT

I would have loved to put Microtech in there but there customer service is not up to snuff...

1. Buck - by far. With models like the 110, 112, 500s, 102, 119, 301, 303, and 309 you can probably find the the right knife for you
2. Case - their smaller CV knives are still great
3. Victorinox - I've never seen perfection in one company that mass produces knives, but Vic is as close as it gets. F&F is great, constancy is off the charts good
Notable mention - KA-BAR, Leatherman

I would like to try GEC but they're too expensive for me at this point.

1. Buck
2. Becker/Ka-Bar
3. ESEE

Yes, macro economics does play a role in my choices, but quality and price-to-performance ratio does also.

1) Benchmade. (Spyderco's probably better, but I'm a sucker for Benchmade.)
2) Victorinox. (They're just so darned adorable!)
3) Leatherman. (Pure utility.)

Is Hinderer considered production? BAM! Then ZT/Kershaw then Spyderco for folders.(
ESEE then Ka-Bar then (Mora, gotta love that price.) for fixed blade. Unless Busse counts then BAM!

Victorinox
Chris Reeve
Spyderco

Many other, but those I concider to be what appeals to me most.

Spyderco for mostly folders, Randall Made for fixed blades, and Victorinox for multi tools. If Randall is not considered production, then substitute Buck for fixed blades.

In no particular order, these are the only companies that have my business right now. Nothing against other brands, but I've gotten nothing but top notch products and excellent customer service from all three.

Zero Tolerance/Kershaw
Spyderco
CRK

Victorinox

löwen messer

and a toss up between Fallkniven and Mora of sweden.

Opinel is a close follow up.
