Optics Planet?

I had a bad experience with them. Ordered a knife which was listed as instock but come to find out it wasn't. Ended up having to cancel the order and get the knife from somewhere else.

Hi Guys!

First off, I want to apologize to any of you that have had less that stellar experiences with OpticsPlanet. While we have served millions of satisfied customers over our 15 years in business, we do on occasion fall short of our complete customer satisfaction goal, and for that we are truly sorry. If there is anything we can do to help remedy these experiences, please do not hesitate to ask.

While there's nothing we can do to change the past, I did want everyone to know that we do everything in our power to learn from our customer experiences, both good and bad. It's with this quality feedback that we are able to improve our ability to serve those passionate about military, hunting, outdoor and professional gear (especially our 11,000+ knives!), and what allows us to ship thousands of packages each and every day to satisfied customers, all with a StellaService Excellent rating.

Again, please do let me know if there is ever anything we can do for any of you. We'd love to serve this community any way we can. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply and if your serious,

You should list items not in stock as backordered and not give false shipping time estimates at ANY of your affiliated sites...

Thank you for the response. My issue is the often blatantly misleading est availability times. In one instance, I placed an order for an item that was in stock. After three days I checked on the status of my order only to find that the availability time was now 2 weeks. I waited two weeks and checked back only to see that my item had not shipped and the availability time had not changed. During a call to your customer service I was informed that the item was discontinued and they were not sure when / if it would be available. Due to the incorrect information listed on your site, I wasted my time and was forced to wait for an item that I eventually got with 1 click and 2 day delivery somewhere else. This was not an isolated incident, but the last of multiple experiences where items listed as "in stock" were not and availability estimates were wrong.

To your credit, if an item is in stock your shipping is prompt. However, with the information presented on your website being totally unreliable, I have no way of determining what items are really in stock. If you would like to "serve this community any way (you) can," please make the information provided on your website accurate.

The problem is how do we know the availability information is accurate? It wasn't before. Is it now? How are we to trust that a change has been made?

In my other hobby it was common for op to drop ship from a manufacturer but have the item listed as in stock. Turns out said item was no longer made by the manufacturer but still listed as in stock. This pissed a lot of people off.

Even if a customer calls to confirm an item is in stock how do we know we are being told the truth? Call bladehq or tkc and they walk over, look at their shelves and say "yup, that's in stock" because they can see it.

I've bought scopes and a range finder from them, and have never had an issue. The prices were great, and the stuff arrived quickly. Perhaps I have just been lucky

I have had the same experience, when the item is in stock. The problem is that the items that are listed in stock are not always actually in stock. You have no way of knowing if the item is actually in stock until you place an order and the item does not ship. It is a roll of the dice, and that is why I do not do business with OP any more.

I have bought dozens of holsters from them and never had an issue. As another member pointed out, check the availability link right below the price before ordering.

Every time I have checked that link and it said it was available and I ordered it, it has always come thus far.

I got shotgun parts from them by way of amazon with no issues... if you deal with them, go that route IMO

One of my orders was through Newegg for Optics Planet and it didn't really help. Perhaps Amazon is the way to go, they seem to stay on top of their sellers more, at least in my experience.

It is good to see OP commenting in the thread, shows they do care some about their reputation. As others have said though, unless there is a more accurate way to gauge in stock items I will likely look elsewhere.

Newegg is another company that now sells almost anything. I remember when they just sold computer stuff.

When it comes to knives we really do have great dealers who sell nothing but knives. Hard to say that about other products.

Great luck so far from several purchases direct from their website. I have noticed that Amazon uses them quite a bit now as well, so that is my new preferred route due to the fact that I have always had great luck with Amazon.

Said in stock when I ordered from them. Had me wait a month before conceding it was not actually in stock like web page said. Canceled order and won't use them again.

Same thing happened to me. I call that "bait and wait."

The prices are generally pretty good, but the pricing can be really inconsistent at times. It's like a computer program is randomly pricing knives. Example: SS serrated Spyderco Delica- "$95: save 23%" ?? Cold steel Voyager XL, serrated: $42 (not bad), plain edge: $62?
Shipping is free most of the time which is good.

I've bought from them. Fairly low prices. But as another said, you might have to wait. I get the sense that they just have the products drop shipped instead of having an actual inventory warehouse.

I've had hit or miss experiences with them, actually "on-hold" with them now. The Customer Service reps always sound really really not happy to be there to be honest.
Ask for anything along the lines of extra service or personal service - forget about it.
As a strictly impersonal on-line vendor probably average for todays level of experience.
Is what it is......

UPdate: ALL of today and most of yesterday..... this Company has a Serious Customer Service attitude problem.

My advice: Find a different vendor to order from.
