Hey guys,

I have been struggling with what knives to bring on a 4 day trek. I will have a 4000 cube bag with a lumbar belt.

What are some carry options that allowed you to bring a decent size fixed blade on a 4 day or so hike?

And what other combos do you bring?

Thanks
PO

On my annual 4 day hike this year I'm carrying my new NWA Forum knife as my primary and a swisstool as my second. As far as chopping tools.Fiskars axe or my WW2 HI Kukri.

My H1 came with the factory leather dangler sheath that can be worn on the trouser belt whilst using the hip belt of my backpack.

These three always accompany me on trips into the Aussie bush

southerncross, your collection of fallknivens never cease to amaze me :D

personally i'd strap the outcast to the side of the pack and then carry the F1 in a baldric across the chest.

jca21, I will try the F-1 in that carry method but it seems like with would be uncomfortable. Yeah, I will carry the outcast on the side of the pack.

southern cross, I never thought of a dangler, seems like a no brainer, below the lumbar belt.

Thanks for the suggestions

PO

I've done the dangler thing like Southern Cross if it is a larger knife. I've also experiemented with attaching it to my shoulder strap (too uncomfortable) and to my pack within hand's reach (too hard to resheath the knife when done using it). The dangler seems to work best.

I have attached my F-1 to the shoulder strap it works great because it is not big. The problem there is when you put your pack down you don't have a knife on you.

I am going to try jca's way and the dangler this morning and compare them.

my outcast will have to be attached to the pack. :(
I already slipped it into the side pouch underneath the retention straps. Looks pretty functional. I would also do a tie down on the sheath with some paracord when I go.

Four day hike with a 4000ci pack? Maybe a mora, more likely an SAK Trekker. In risky conditions solo, maybe an F1.

What does your kit weigh?

If it were me for 4 days, id pack a farmer in my pocket, and my Gossman on my belt.

Maybe a folding saw or hawk strapped to my pack. Depends on if you can have a fire or not where you are.

DaleW, I am not totally sure of the weight because I am not sure of the weather conditions yet. I am still researching.

Bring whatever suits your fancy.

I like Nessmuk and Bushcraft type blades so I usually bring one of those or the other.

I usually carry a small hatchet esp if I'm carrying the Nessmuks which are thinner bladed.

Normally I bring a folder too that has one tiny little blade.

I've gone on 4 day trips with just a folder and burned downed wood in half instead of cutting it.

But we all love knives here so bring the ones you LIKE:thumbup:;)

It is not so much about what knives as the carrying systems for them with a large pack.

what i mean by baldric was something more along the lines of having the knife sit across your chest. i saw someone around the forums here to it before and it looked quite functional. how bout carrying it in the neck knife way?

something like this would be great too

jca,

A chest rig would be too bulky and expensive.

I just did an over the shoulder with a gear strap through the teklok with the F-1 upside down. Totally comfortable! The knife is right there for either hand access and it is somewhat concealable because your arm is covering it naturally.

Tek-loks are really amazing, because once I get to camp, I can just snap the F-1 on my belt either horizontally or vertically.

I tried the dangling deal and it was not for me.

Thanks
PO

I carried my S1 on my pack in a Spec-ops sheath.I kept the empty kydex one on my belt so when I got to camp I jut switched it over.I gave the S1 as an example but I've done that with a few knives.
