Late to the party, just got back from dinner...

Blade steel for folders, I like S90V, CPM-M4, M390, CPM-REX121, and CPM-D2. From that list, I'd have to say CPM-M4 is my favorite, then CPM-D2, both with preferably as high HRC as possible. That's from a heavy user standpoint where the opportunity to strop and maintain the edge is available. Although REX121 and S90V stay sharp for a long time, you need the right setup to effectively maintain them.

For my custom chopper, I went with 0.316" chisel-ground S7. I also have a Howard Clark L6 Bainite Katana that I used for tameshigiri many years ago, but I haven't ever gotten that re-sharpened and would have to take it to someone to do.

I'm nervous. I sent an e-mail regarding the Red Skyline and he replied, and then I replied, and I haven't heard anything since. I'm probably just freaking out, but It's killing me. Someone else sent an e-mail, and I'm worried that he won't want to trade with me. What to do, what to do .

Help me help you.

fleabay alert I'm bidding on a offset with the splash handle on the bay located in buffalo NY, If your bidding 2 PM me so we don't bid each other up;)

And regarding Damascus steel, performance will vary greatly depending on the alloys used of course. I've had some beautifully-patterned Damascus that, despite the tight layering, didn't hold up very well to any kind of normal use. The Alabama Damascus that Kershaw uses is pretty good, and I have a Damascus salvo/barrage that I used a lot for EDC purposes. It stood up well against a lot of citrus and peppers, and didn't show any signs of rust after diligently wading the blade and maintaining it with a light coat of food-grade mineral oil which I use on most of my carbon steel blades. Through the years though, you can now feel the layers on the sides of the blade with your fingernail. It's not the best at edge holding compared to the upper tier of bladesteels but is easy to sharpen. I can just touch it up lightly on a 1K/6K stone.
