It depends on the steel, i usually use my diamond kit, then on to the fine rod, then sapphire rod. Then i use an old leather belt to strop
Do you know if the Sapphire Rod is less coarser than the Ultra Fine Rod? If it is, then to me it would make sense to use it after.
I heard that the green compound is the best. Is that right people?
Oh, I didn't even know there were differences in compounds based on color. I just thought there were different numbers.

Different compounds are for different ends. I get the stuff from Stropman also, so his "Medium" compound is white. I've seen that medium sold as a green material elsewhere. His black compound is the most aggressive.

It's really just the amount of cut you get in the abrasive via the size of the grit. I only really use the medium compound. The color of your medium will vary depending on where you get it.

I made my strop. spent $5 on leather and used wood I had laying around. Add whatever compound you wish.

And aren't they stones? Not rods? We are talking about the lansky here right, not the shrpmaker?

I'd have made one, but there are literally no materials vendors around me...

And yes, I thought they were stones also. Rods are normally cylindrical, no?

I have a Lansky but I never use it. If anyone here needs one, I'd be more than happy to send it their way. You'll have to get a couple new stones though.

So Knotty, let me send you what I've got. I've got a couple sets, don't use them. I'll send them to you Friday.
