For the record, the flat rate boxes only cost about 20 cents more to ship than the ones dave uses, especially now that delivery confirmation/tracking is included. Once you pay for the smaller box, you are basically at the same price anyway.
I absolutely HATE getting knives in padded envelopes. They are far too easy to rip open and claim it was an accident. Also, I've never gotten a box inside an envelope that wasn't completely crushed during shipping. Use a flat rate box and tape every edge. It's only $5.90. :thumbup:
I couldn't second this advice more.
I always use bubble wrap, then flat rate box, then lots of tape. No way am I going to be involved in losing a $400 knife.
