Order of KAI Official Hang Out; Part Deux - It's Enrico Palazzo!

Just got added to a wait list for my first custom, a 10 inch bowie by Joe Hoover. Sooo excited I just can't wait to start waiting... :)

Looks like a 3 year-old got ahold of a piece of paper and a pencil.

I'm guessing that's the alphabet?
That's ONE of the alphabets. They have three, and Japanese writing is an accumulation of all three. But since it's possible to write everything you need in Hiragana (alphabet I showed you) I'm learning that first.
Here are the other two.

Katakana (it's used for foreign made words)

katakana1.jpg

The hardest of the three, Kanji. It will eventually replace most of the Hiragana you use, but hiragana will still be used for word endings and such.
It has thousands of characters. (no you don't need to memorize them all, you actually don't need to know it at all. As far as forming sentences is concerned)

Through one ear and out the other.

This Fellhoelter TiBolt pen is effing awesome! Hinderer Investigator is kicked out of the pocket. Eric, if you're on a spending money kick, then pick one of these up. You won't be disappointed. The Schmidt cartridge in this thing is also craaaaaaaazy smooth, with a gorgeous line.

You're learning Japanese? It's a difficult language. I took a few classes several years ago, and it was tough. (I never had much aptitude for foreign languages.) I did okay on the reading and writing, but trying to carry on a conversation was very challenging. がんばって!

All three writing systems are used commonly in writing (as well as English, but at least you already know that one). Kanji is helpful because it helps reduce ambiguity, but some words that can be written in Kanji are still more commonly written in kana (がんばって being one example). Katakana also isn't exclusive to foreign/borrowed words. It is also used to emphasize Japanese words (not unlike using capital letters when typing).

Well that doesn't make me feel supported :p
If I put my mind to something, it'll happen. If it's something I REALLY want to do, I won't get discouraged, and I won't quit. I'll probably get myself a tutor once I learn all the basics, or until I get to a point where I'm unable to teach myself.

I have been looking for a cool TI pen to spruce up my EDC. I've been intrigued by those Fellhoelter pens in the past but never could get myself to buy one.

But now that YOU have one... its SO ON! I have to keep up with Mario you know... i dont want to be left in the dust like Wario or Luigi

why are you learning Japanese again?

So when you're old enough to go to one of those "massage" places you can order exactly what you want? Oh wait no... i think thats Thai.

I've always wanted to learn it. And man, I'd love to go to Japan before I die. And I do plan on going (many times) before I die.

The internet is freaking amazing. I was looking up tutors near me, and nada. But I found a website where they have a bunch of tutors, (actually from Japan) and they teach you through Skype.

You may very well fare better than I did. Foreign languages were never a strength for me. So much to the point that it actually factored into picking my major in college (chose one that didn't require foreign language credits). Just never had an aptitude for them.

That was actually the reason I took the classes (was a few years after I graduated). I went on vacation there and had a lot of fun (despite being a bit communication-challenged). I thought if I could at least pick up some basics, I wouldn't be quite as lost the next time I visited.

Oh, yeah. Another reason I'm taking Japanese is because I like to challenge myself. Spanish is pretty easy, but even though I still hate it. I think that's the problem with my generation. They don't want to challenge themselves, they like to do the bare minimum.
I think I'm one of the outcasts in my generation :D (along with Daymon, and Kirb)

thats pretty cool. I took spanish in school and i picked it up super easy. I still remember most of it, but conjugating verbs never really stuck.

it'd be fun to travel the world. but save your pennies. its friggin expensive.

I was planning a trip to Norway this summer to visit one of my friends. She was an exchange student my senior year of high school. and just because i know someone is gunna ask... yes she is hot. Worth traveling half way across the world to see? Yup.
it just got too expensive, so im planning on going next summer.

I want one so bad but only see a place where I could get one In October. Prolly gonna end up getting the maxmadco pen just because they are available.

I took a few classes worth of German in high school. The only things I really remember are "senf" and "taschenrechner" - which are mustard and calculator, respectively. Kind of a bummer, because I really don't like mustard. Could make for a really funny hitler parody though.

"Ich heisse senf taschenrechner!!"

Or perhaps the solid titanium pen+stylus. Like I said I love the tibolt but it is on it's second starter site and with all the demand there is no reason for it not to be in full production and available.

Well Matt D Tactical has them for $150 with the flat Ti end cap plus the stylus attachment with three nibs. It's a pretty decent price, and he said he had about 15 of them before I ordered. So, if you want one they're readily available there. I saw the other crowdfunding thing, but Matt D is a good dealer so I just picked one up.

I've been looking around, and have been finding some great pens. Matthew Martin makes nice pens for not too high a price. They're on MonkeyEdge, and both his Ti/cf pens are available. The clicky is only $75 and the more robust screw on cap is $135. Really not bad.

Also, I was web surfing (who remembers that phrase?) and found that there are a lot of pen projects on Kickstarter, so much so that "Kickstarter pen" is actually a thing. Pretty cool. Among them was a company called KarasKustoms that make a bolt action pen called The Bolt. They only offer it in brass and aluminum, but it looks really nice. I may get one.

I then found a titanium pen made by Big Idea Designs I believe it was, but it didn't fit Fisher or Parker cartridges. I emailed them, and they said that they're actually in the process of designing one, and it'll be out this year. Their Ti pen was only about $75 so it seemed cool to try out.

Mattd is out of stock already, none are readily available. The ti pen+stylus is the big idea designs one. It takes an insane number of refills including a schmidt which is prolly what I would use anyway, thinking I will do that or the maxmadco as that one is said to be the most comfortable to write with. My new position n loves a ton of paperwork so I might as well have something nice to write with.

Glad you like it sticky. I'm sure the retractable interface will suit you better, especially since you're in an office all day and are writing constantly.
I'm interested in that Schmidt cartridge...would it fit the investigator/extreme duty? I won't be picking up the Ti Bolt since my writing is kept pretty minimal (I don't use my pen for days actually) so investing any more money on high end writing instruments isn't too wise, especially when I could use that money to fund my quest for an XM-18 3.5 :)

Just a random thought on carry methods:

Tip up / Tip down ... whatever your fancy.

It's just everytime I read "IWB" - my brain says "In Water Buffalo"
