Order of KAI Official Hang Out; Part Deux - It's Enrico Palazzo!

Yep, that's why I bought it. I needed something good that could reprofiling in a reasonable amount of time. I'm going to practice A LOT before I trust myself with any higher end knives.

After trying in vain to sharpen my CB Leek on Arkansas stones (seemed like I was removing more stone than steel), I got the DMT set. Probably took no more than 10 minutes or so on the fine and extra-fine, and the Leek was back to a razor edge.

When you sharpen recurves, are you supposed to use the corner of the stone?

I'll probably also practice on some of my moms crappy kitchen knives.

Oh ya, and once again, i changed wich knife im saving for... What was the predicted msrp on the 0888? I think im going to save for that ball park, and see if i cant land my first LE zt when it comes out

I've never been able to freehand recurves well. You can use the corner of the stone, but it's pretty difficult to maintain a consistent angle around the curve using just the corner (at least for me). For recurve blades, I use a guided system (DMT Aligner in my case) with a narrower stone (1") to navigate the curve better. I also sharpen it as two separate edges -- tip to the apex of the recurve, and then from there to the base.

I haven't tried any, but I think crock stick systems with round rods (vs. the triangle rods on the Sharpmaker) would work well. Don't know if anybody makes one with an abrasive enough surface to work efficiently on more wear resistant steels though. I've seen references curved stones for the Edge Pro system, but I think those have since been discontinued. They still sell 1/2" wide stones, which would probably work well enough on recurves. Haven't tried one of those either.

Im too lazy to go all the way back to check who wanted to know what the Benchmade Triage felt like... but I handled it today while I was at GPknives.

I wasn't too impressed with it, but its pretty nicely built. Its a little too small for my hands. The glass breaker on the end dug into the base of my thumb/palm. If you've got smaller hands, or you're wearing gloves it would be fine.

I'm pretty good at keeping a consistent angle with recurves. If it becomes too much of a hassle, I'll buy the extra course diamond stone for my lansky.
