Order of the Canoe

5K Qs, I think that Diamond Jim is probably just a little older knife. My beard was black when I was younger, but now it looks more like that :)
That top Rough Rider is the same as the first Canoe I bought. I think I passed it along to someone else, but it was a very nice knife.

A Rough Rider "Diamond Jim" canoe with covers that are supposed to be smooth black bone (but the dye job is less than impressive): GT

I think the covers look pretty nice Gary.

I dunno ... that "smooth black bone" kinda looks like mammoth or something. :)

Thanks, guys. :) It does look interesting with the mottled color (and popedandy's explanation for why is as good as any :D), and I never even considered sending it back. (I did actually send back a RR "Stroke of Luck" canoe that was supposed to be brilliant green but one side was pukey brown. :barf:) But I'm surprised how much I'm bothered by mismatched covers on an inexpensive knife that's nothing but a user. Here are mark and pile side shots of Diamond Jim:

I had a Case Canoe in "burnt lizzard"! It had a super cool green covers. I forget who I sold it to here but someone else has it now.

A few more of my canoes. I'm getting down to about my last half-dozen, I think.
A Rough Rider Moonglow canoe. It glows in the dark, but not for very long.

I added one Case XX from the mid of the 70's, with dark bone handles. And this duo is all I have so far.
Maybe GEC could do some of their Canoe patterns again, so I could increase my small collection. The Northfield Version on Macchinas photo looks so nice!

This one's cool, I didn't know there are other knife makers than Great Eastern with the glow in the dark handles.
The opening notch looks quite grippy, and I guess the horseshoe tang stamp makes this knife a lucky charm...

How's the quality on those Klaas knives, Gary? They're certainly good looking, but I haven't picked one up yet.
Sorry about the week-long delay, Barrett; work for the next 3 weeks will keep me off The Porch most of the time. :(
I have only a couple Klaas knives, both small canoes. I'm very pleased with their quality, but maybe my standards are lower than lots of folks here. ;) I think they're solidly built with good fit and finish. Klaas used to be Germany's Kissing Cranes brand, but I think all of the Klaas-branded knives are made in China now.

nifebrite, those sure are gorgeous old Case canoes you have there!:thumbup: IMHO, that pair deserves re-posting in the Notable Pairs thread!

Most (if not all) of my Rough Rider knives have the horseshoe tang stamp, and I have a couple dozen probably, so I should have pretty good luck! :D
I can see why the "Moon Glow" RR interests you, with that username you've chosen! ;) As I mentioned, the glow doesn't last nearly long enough to use as a "night light" in the bedroom, which is what I kinda was hoping for. Even after a significant time in direct sunlight "recharging", I think I get only about 12-30 minutes of glow-in-dark from my canoe.

I think these are the last of my current canoe collection, both from Rough Rider. One is ram's horn bone (i.e., bone jigged and dyed to simulate ram's horn - done quite well, I think); the other is from the Zombie Nick series of RR knives - what else can I say?:o

I'm saving my pennies for the Zombie Nick Canoe and Zombie Nick large Sunfish. :)

Thank you, GT.
With so many nice horseshoe stamped Canoes you sure are a lucky man.:)
By the way, my GEC glowing time is also only a few minutes..

Well, I just recently decided to expand my knife collection to include canoe knives. I spotted this Stoneworx knife on Ebite and decided I would try it for the price. $18.00 shipped. Well, I sure am glad I did. Real mother of pearl with turquoise and some other stone. Yes, it is a China made Rough Rider and I wasn't expecting much. The fit and finish is exceptional and it is a beautiful knife.

Very nice, Gunner! [emoji106] I, too, have looked at those Stoneworx models and liked the looks of them. Congrats on getting one! I have five RR canoes, and all are good knives. I even keep one in my car at all times.

I like the Colt canoe knives. I understand the Colt knives ended with 2016. I have a few of them. Even the cheap "inexpensive" Rough Riders I have added to the collection are pretty well built. There are some mighty fine looking canoe pics on this post.
