Well, I was looking for a new, cool EDC knife, not too big and not too small. I have a black Benchmade Mini-Grip in 440C I carry now, and have been looking for something a tad larger. Was looking at the Spyderco Para 2 (I have a Native, Dragonfly and Manbug) and this new Benchmade after I saw it introduced at the 2014 SHOT show. It is the Benchmade HK Axis, model 14715 with the plain blade. It strikes me as a more pocketable Adamas - smaller, D2 plain blade, Axis lockup and G10 scales.

Should be arriving in the next week. Will post pics when I receive it.

Good choice, I have been interested in this one since I saw it in various SHOT Show 2014 videos for Benchmade.

There is a good chance I will get one of these too, just not right away though.

Guess what Mr. Brown Truck dropped off today! A new HK Axis (14715). Here are some pics…

That thing looks awesome. Looking forward to ordering one but haven't seen them in stock anywhere.

my my, looks really good. New model BMs haven't crawled up on my wants list in a while. This may be one of them.

Yes, it's says "USA" on the left side of the blade. Although in their catalog, it says "USA made (from Austrian steel)".

The lockup is snug, with no play laterally or up and down. The Axis lockup bar appears to be the same diameter as my Mini-Griptilian at .155". I've read the Adamas has a locking bar 25% larger than the regular Griptilian. The rear portion of the blade that the Axis bar engages is much wider than my Mini-Grip. Comes nicely sharpened from the factory (passes the shaving your arm hair test). When engaging the Axis mechanism with the blade open, the blade falls away into the body - just the right amount of play. The G10 scales, blade, stainless steel liners and screws are all black. Looks like this will make a nice jeans knife - just why I ordered it. Certainly too big to replace my Dragonfly in my Khaki's for work.

I ordered it directly from Benchmade. We have a deal at work where we can get them at a bit of a discount. Still, it's the most I've spent on a knife!

That looks like a nice knife, not my style but I'm going to recommend it to my cousin who needs a replacement for his 5+ year old Stryker.

I see BM isn't enforcing MAP on the HK line, that's good to see. Make sure you give us an update in a few weeks how it's working for you.

Cool, I am hoping to find enough money in my knife budget for this one. I couldn't think of a better knife for you to buy.

I have one on order.

Guess this will be the last Benchmade for me for a while because of the dealer price "freeze" and lack of most new models that interest me.

GCG199, let us know what you think when you receive yours. I've been carrying mine on weekends and casual Fridays (doesn't carry well in khaki's the rest of the week. Usually have a Dragonfly in my pocket Mon. - Thurs.) over the last few weeks, and really like it. Needed a 1/8 of a turn on the Torx pivot screw to get just the right tension in the blade (for me). Black coating seems pretty durable. I've just been using it for EDC tasks - opening mail, boxes at work, zip ties, etc. Still super sharp. Haven't touched up the edge yet. Really liking this D2 steel.

Yes, I carried mine today and used it at work.

It cuts very well on food prep and stuff.

It works well for my needs.

Quite a light and compact EDC knife.

I am glad that I picked it up.

I just haven't been interested in many Benchmades lately.

Anybody else get one of these yet? I really like the look of these....especially for $100 give or take.

I just got this knife today. I think this is one one of the best Benchmades of this year, even more so at the price point. It's a tank. I certainly wouldn't call it light or compact, but I do like a beefy blade. The tip is very stout. It reminds me of the H&K 14205 a lot. Blade thickness, length, handle to blade ratio, handle thickness, etc, are almost the same. The G-10 is really grippy.... almost too much in my opinion. I prefer smooth really.... I have some nice slabs of red linen micarta that I'll be re scaling this knife with soon. I prefer knives that let me get my index finger real close to the edge of the blade so that I can make control cuts with the heel of the blade and the large curve of the handle allows this without me worrying about cutting myself. The jimping is effective and the coffin shaped handle is actually much more comfortable than I thought it would be. Mine came with slight side play, but I'm fine with my axis lock knives having just a bit of play. Vertical play is non existent, but one thing that does concern me is that the axis bar extends almost as far as it can go on the blade right now, which means if there is much wear in, it might develop vertical play in the future. I have sent a couple of knives to benchmade in the past and issues like this have been resolved, so I won't worry about it. Blade centering is perfect.

Overall, I'm extremely impressed with this knife. Definitely offers the most bang for the buck in the axis folder lineup. Picked mine up at gpknives.com for a great price too!
