ORDERS ARE CLOSED! 2023 BladeForums.com Traditional Knife.

🥰 🥰 🥰 Should be mandatory for them to post the number they receive. o_Oo_Oo_O;)
It's cool to get a certain number that means something. But I'm not picky. I love GEC's. So here's how I'll look at it. Whatever number I get will closely match the number of what's left in my savings account!

Kind of like if we all boycott gas stations on Tuesday gas prices will come down?
Not a good comparison. Most flippers aren't going to lay out cash to sit on a knife for months. They want a quick strike while the item is popular. If the quick buck isn't there they either have to lower their selling price to move it faster or not participate if the "margin" doesn't meet their target.

Following this logic if we cared enough and put in enough effort then the flippers would stop? 🤔
Actually, I think we'd have to put more effort into caring less.

If we cared less, demand would drop, and the flippers would starve. Starving flippers would then go back to squabbling over sneakers or some other foolishness.

BTW - I can't tell you how grateful I am to not care about sneakers, like at all. Those goofs seem even crazier than us. If I have a nice traditional in pocket, I could care less what's on my feet - combat boots, chancletas, banana peels, Keds, loafers, boat shoes, Crocs, Birkenstocks - whatever.

Unfortunately the more we gate-keep, the higher the secondary market flippers would price things.
How so?

ETA: maybe, but you might also ensure more enthusiasts get the knife at the offer price rather than paying an outrageous markup and supporting the continuance of the problem.

We care about gas prices and are changing our behavior

Ok - so in your scenario how long do we “wait” to buy the knife once the flipper has it? Once we all start buying them at cheaper prices won’t the prices go back up?

Supply and demand. If the amount hitting ebay dropped in half due to policing by the forum, don’t you think that would have an impact on secondary cost? The value of this knife should be sentimental.. not scarcity. Imho
Wouldn't bother me cuz I'm not paying the eBay price no matter what. Would rather see a higher percentage of knives available at the retail price for everyone here.

But that’s what upsets people.. the flipping for profit.. which mostly occurs off this forum not here.. which is what I was talking about.

The rarer the knife, the more desired by the masses. That’s why I’m saying efforts to police up the secondary might not have the desired outcome.

As birdbeaks said starve them out of the market. However long it takes. You can't do that with gas...unless you can bike 40 miles to work in the winter in the meantime.

There's plenty of flipping goes on here...and the knife community is very small compared to eBay. I'm sure most of the ppl who search eBay for GEC are active here or on a few other clubs/boards.

If only it were that easy for both of these scenarios!

It pales in comparison. $10-$20.. what’s that cover, tax/shipping/g&s fees? The real gougers are off forum because they know they’d get slammed.. and if the guy marking up $10 for overhead gets to you.. well.. invest in some blood pressure meds before you see eBay.
Most of the desirable knives don't end up on eBay, they end up here because this is where GECs biggest fan base is. And I'm not talking about the $10 or $20 markup. I know you've seen the "other" sales threads.

I just want to point out that I've never sold a knife. Ever.

I also don't ever plan to.

I still have, somewhere, every knife I've ever had that hasn't been lost, stolen, or gifted (like me 🤣) away. I recently discovered that my first knife, a SAK of some persuasion, had been in my dad's garage the whole time and is still his go-to garage knife.

I assume that plays a major part in why I'm so suspicious of people selling knives that aren't legitimate dealers.

If anyone ever sees me trying to sell a knife - please alert a crisis hotline on my behalf. I'd have to be in a very dark place. 🤣

Wait.... are you telling me you've got a pair of 2023 Banana Peels?! 😱

I seen a 2019 forum knife on Ebay for an absolutely absurd amount of money, same seller had a 2021 as well as a 2019 with a 2021 blade swapped in.
Edit to add, the seller still has them, plus last years Bunny Knife serial number 398.
