ORDERS ARE CLOSED! 2023 BladeForums.com Traditional Knife.

I think the issue is not being able to get one because people decide to acquire one with the express intent to resell it for 3x with no value added. (But muh capitalism.) Can't enjoy something you don't have....
I dunno.. this offering has been up for what, a week now and there are still knives available? It isn’t that “scarce”… if someone wants it and is around for the release they usually get one. The highest levels of demand seem to be generated by those outside the forum that have to have the shiny new toy. Thing is, flipping is likely to happen no matter what precautions are taken and the guy selling his on eBay for $500 probably doesn’t care what anyone thinks about it. In the end, the only thing that suffers is the people getting upset about it. Flippers suck, but trying to avoid it is like emptying a sinking boat with a bucket.

Sounds grim - but accurate too.

for me its more making a note of who not to sell or trade anything to, since they're just gonna flip it later on.

That’s great in theory… but with 600 knives floating around and what, 20% or so being sold and resold.. who knows who did what at that point. Unless you hold the original buyer liable for all serial # resales.

yes, that acrylic is probably a bit more forgiving than the bone.
I bought a few acrylic GEC's back when you could find them at dealers. I ended up selling, trading or gifting them due to two factors. One, I prefer natural materials on traditionals. Two, they were pretty but gave me flashbacks to the bad old days of celluloid. I know that acrylic isn't going to shrink, discolor, gas out to rust the knife they're on or catch fire, but the look brings back the memories.

I have a #87 in Hummingbird acrylic. It may be an acquired taste but the variation and coloring work well on that model, perhaps because the handle is bigger than most. Smaller patterns may benefit from a more subtle color variation?

Those that don’t care or put in any effort to stop poor behavior are the reason it thrives.
It’s not the end of the world, much bigger problems than flippers, but excusing them because it isn’t effecting you at this moment is enabling the behavior that IS effecting many in this hobby.

I will get off my soap box, just irks me when good people allow misdeeds because they feel it isn’t their place. It’s got to be someone’s place.

As a user and enthusiast, ideally, the knives that seem made specifically to appeal to us, that come from a fellow enthusiast like bill howard, should be ideally available to the people he made them for, not for the investors. But I digress, it is by and large out of my control, I just don’t want to give up entirely on a cause that I believe in. It’s my hobby, I’m passionate about it. I don’t expect everyone else to be.

Be sure and post what number you get ;)

right, if its something i want to stick in my pocket, id probably go acrylic too. I do worry about dropping bone handled knives. wood is also a bit more forgiving than the bone, as the wood would just dent or mark up. Ironically, my edc is a 14 tc smooth white bone. I know its been treated and it typically rides in a slip but dropping that bone would still not be fun.

The Bladeforums Traditional knife is pretty much the only GEC I've been able to buy at cost from a "stocking dealer" since about 2018, and only because of the limitations Spark placed on purchasing. Let me know next time you see a GEC folding knife in stock anywhere except eBay for more than 3 minutes.

Hey, but like seriously, if someone lets you know - you're gonna pay it forward and let me know too, right? Right?

I’m talking about the forum members and this particular knife.. not public releases by GEC. As far as I can see everyone that wants one gets one, provided they are a member of the forum and meet the requirements. Baring people asleep for a few weeks that miss the drop. GEC fans created this situation. If this was a Benchmade Bugout with “Bladeforums 2023” written on the side, there wouldn’t be any profit made flipping. Spark didn’t create the demand.. the rabid GEC fan base did.

Yes, bravo to Spark for working hard to ensure GEC enthusiasts who ARE forum members are able to get this exclusive knife.

Following this logic if we cared enough and put in enough effort then the flippers would stop? 🤔

Putting one each of the super secret acrylic models up for a random drawing would be cool. Hint hint. To gold or higher memberships with 25+ comments and with AA initials for user name? Or just send me one and I'll shut up? Haha. Can't blame a guy for trying!
Seriously though, I hope whoever gets them post pics, I'd love to see them all. Congrats to those of you that recieve them. Beautiful. I'm excited just to recieve the regular version. My mail man just shakes his head when he swerves around my camp chair.
