ORDERS ARE CLOSED! 2023 BladeForums.com Traditional Knife.

Mine came today, #181. It's a nice knife, but I sincerely wish that GEC could build a knife without the bear-trap springs. I know they can do it, I have a few that have good spring tension. But in all seriousness, the pen blade on this thing cannot be opened with a thumbnail.
Odd - I'd say the Smoked Amber Texcrylic one I've got has a 5 main/6 secondary, and the Unicorn Ivory Acrylic is just slightly stiffer on both blades, say 6 main/6.5 secondary.

I don't have a forum knife to compare them to yet; maybe my thumb needs calibrating - I have been opening a Tuna Valley Phoenix Jack pretty frequently lately, which, could be considered thumb exercises I guess. 💪👍

No kidding! I used the screwdriver end of the file on my Vic Rambler to open the pen blade. It was a struggle. After doing that about 10-12 times, I was able to open it with my thumb. Once. After many tries.

The main has gotten slightly easier to open, though. Yesterday, I wasn't sure if I'd ever really carry this knife, but after futzing around with it today I think I can reliably open the main when I need to. I love the shape of the knife in my hand.

I actually tore my finger nail on trying to open the pen blade. Still love it though
I came pretty close to tearing a nail.

I got a surprise on my porch yesterday. A big thank you to Spark Spark for making this one happen and congratulations on 25 years of Bladeforums.

Here's a tip. You know those Tyvek mailers that Amazon and the like use, the ones that are so hard to open? Cut a strip about an inch wide and a couple of inches long. Fold it in half to make a sling, slip it over the blade, and use the sling to open the blade. It's easy, and you're less likely to injure yourself or scratch the blade if it slips.

Mine arrived yesterday -160! It’s a really, really nice knife. I’d go so far as to say it might be a favorite. At the least I’m going to give it a very good trial by carrying it daily. There’s literally nothing about this knife I don’t like. From the beefy wharncliffe to the satisfying half stops, the pulls on mine are perfect, 6 on the main and 7 on the pen. Not really something I care about, but I was impressed that the backsprings were very close to flush at half stop.

Nice! I never would have thought of that. Thanks dsutton24 dsutton24 !

Another great thing about the Porch, the amount of knowledge and ideas are invaluable. Who would have thunk.

I just spent a little more time than I planned in the garage trying this out. It works beautifully! I have two other nail-breakers that I never carry and need to do something about. First, a Schrade contract Buck 303. The spey/pen and sheepsfoot blades are nearly impossible to get open with just a thumbnail. No problem with the Amazon mailer. Second, a Camillus Barlow from the 80's (?) with a very stiff pen blade. No biggie for the Amazon mailer. It was super easy.

Aren't most the Amazon mailers perforated.... 😁

I love ripping into them with a knife as well I won't deny!

Aaarrgh! Mine was delivered at 4:01 today, but, of course I’m out of town until tomorrow night! Oh well, something to look forward to. Good to all of yours!

Mine came this way as well. I opened with a flat head screw driver and added some oil to the joint. Worked it a bit, added more oil and let it sit for a few days.

It’s now a comfortable 8 pull
