Oregon Knife Show 2017

Agreed that PDF was very helpful. Assuming similar participation this year I'll be making the drive from Portland.

Can't believe the lack of activity on this thread, if I was able to make it this year I would have been bumping this thread daily, counting down the sleeps. I would have been on the road this morning, on my way. Would really appreciate lot's of pictures for those of us unable to make it: people, tables full of knives, general room shots, displays. There were lot's of pics posted last year, thanks alot to Dave and Lloyd.
Regards and thanks in advance.

I think Jimbo would normally be bumping his thread more often, but he's probably pretty busy right now planning for that trip he just won from KSF to go to the next Bark River Grind-in! :D

I know that I am looking forward to getting out there and seeing all the knives and the people. It's coming up! I just got my OKCA newsletter yesterday. :)

You got it Phil 😁😁😁 that and I've been dealing with a ton of stuff around the new place! In the 3 weeks I've lived here me and the neighbors have installed a fence, gate and cleanout valve to snake my sewer line. Also had a lemon garbage disposal in yge kitchen sink, no blinds on the windoews... the list goes on haha. The compound is secure now though! REALLY looking forward to this weekend. I've been growing my beard for 2 months for it so I can fit in with all you manly men showing up 😁

Have fun Charlie. Don't forget to share pictures of all your new loot.

One of those knife rolls is on my list of things to get at the show this year. Nice spread filling out yours :)

Well my plan to attend is shot. Have to work. Keep thinking it's time to retire...

Sorry you are going to miss the show Eisman! Sometimes work prevails and we have little control of that at times during our working careers. Retiring for me has given me a lot more time to focus on this passion of ours. I just couldn't keep up with the young bucks any more. Knew it was time to bow out. I couldn't believe how tired I was after retiring in late 2015. Took me a couple of months to recuperate and catch up on my sleep.

I will have my camera ready and try to get some photos up Friday evening of the set up. Will try to post more photographs Saturday/Sunday evening before I get home if I can. Not a very good photographer but I will try to get a bunch of shots.

I am out of here Thursday morning. Look forward to seeing everyone!

Lloyd

If anyone wants to meet up, I'd love to say hi. I'll only be there Saturday. Just message me.

No Problem Dan! I think we can manage to get some pics taken. I enjoy revisiting the photos in a few months after the show.
Always fun to remember the good times with friends from right here on this forum. Anyone who shows up please come by Charlie's and Barry's table, U-2 and U-3

Road trip starts for me tonight!!!:D:cool:
See Ya!!!

Dave

From the list of table holders, looks like it will be a great show. Enjoy!! Bit far for me to attend.

Laying in my airbnb bed trying to sleep. Tomorrow morning can't come soon enough. Can't wait to meet everyone, please do come up and say hi if you recognize me. I've brought a good selection of GECs and bark rivers along if anyone is curious to see some. Here are some pics from my stop at Oregon blade maker earlier:

Well, the Friday set up for the Show is now in the books. What a day of visual sensory overload. This show will not disappoint in terms of kinds and types of folders and fixed blades both vintage and new custom offerings. Had breakfast with Charlie, Dave and Rick. Then got to the show about 9:00 am thinking there might be some collectors out front spilling their knife rolls open and teasing the crowd of what was to come. Was not to be it as it was raining lightly and windy so everyone waited in their cars for the doors to open officially at 10:00. Unlike last year with unseasonably mild weather and no rain the the action began in earnest before the doors even opened. We got in at 10:00 and helped Charlie and Christine with GEC set up their tables. Actually Dave (knowtracks), Rick and Charlie did all the heavy lifting and I sort of assist as needed:confused:. Most of us didn't wait to much longer to begin the hunt. Sellers (most are very accommodating) and patiently allow interaction and selling/trading dialogue while they unpack and layout their goods. We all made many deals through out the day and then headed back to Charlie and Gunstock Jacks tables and sat for a spell relieving the others so they could dash off and see what could be found.

Here are some photographs (not very good quality) but best I could do with the indoor lighting, old camera and trying to photograph knives behind glass. The displays never disappoint and with enthusiastic collectors showing off their best stuff it is easy to spend considerable time visiting and "picking the brains" of world class knife collectors. I think there was 18 or so displays and there was everything from Bowie Knives to Hobo Knives. Anyway it is getting late and I am tired! It is hard work hunting for vintage knives:eek: There will probably be more photos and certainly better ones than I took so stay tuned. Lloyd
