Oregon Knife Show 2017

The unlabeled picture with all the pearls were my friend and Tulsa table partner Dave Schultz. Glasses and white hair.

Charles I should have included his name but was just to tired and forgot. Took me about an hour and a half to upload the photos to Photobucket, size them, put the link on BF and then write a very short summary. Dave is a very nice gentleman and I visited with him a couple of times during the course of the show. Also bought some nice vintage pearl folders from him:D Lloyd

Well, the Friday set up for the Show is now in the books. What a day of visual sensory overload. This show will not disappoint in terms of kinds and types of folders and fixed blades both vintage and new custom offerings. Had breakfast with Charlie, Dave and Rick. Then got to the show about 9:00 am thinking there might be some collectors out front spilling their knife rolls open and teasing the crowd of what was to come. Was not to be it as it was raining lightly and windy so everyone waited in their cars for the doors to open officially at 10:00. Unlike last year with unseasonably mild weather and no rain the the action began in earnest before the doors even opened. We got in at 10:00 and helped Charlie and Christine with GEC set up their tables. Actually Dave (knowtracks), Rick and Charlie did all the heavy lifting and I sort of assist as needed:confused:. Most of us didn't wait to much longer to begin the hunt. Sellers (most are very accommodating) and patiently allow interaction and selling/trading dialogue while they unpack and layout their goods. We all made many deals through out the day and then headed back to Charlie and Gunstock Jacks tables and sat for a spell relieving the others so they could dash off and see what could be found.

Here are some photographs (not very good quality) but best I could do with the indoor lighting, old camera and trying to photograph knives behind glass. The displays never disappoint and with enthusiastic collectors showing off their best stuff it is easy to spend considerable time visiting and "picking the brains" of world class knife collectors. I think there was 18 or so displays and there was everything from Bowie Knives to Hobo Knives. Anyway it is getting late and I am tired! It is hard work hunting for vintage knives:eek: There will probably be more photos and certainly better ones than I took so stay tuned. Lloyd

Thanks for posting all those great pictures, Lloyd! It always seems like it goes by in a blur, so it is nice to be reminded of the great people and knives that were there.

You too, Dan! We missed you this year - hope all is going well for you!!!:)

I had a feeling I wasn't going to like opening your Oregon finds post Charlie, and I was right! I don't like any of them. Tee He!! Another group of maximum condition Schrades, and that English Jack ooohhh so sweet! Good Job Charlie.

Glad you like it Barry. That knife has quite a presence!!

Wonderful acquisitions Charlie! Your scans are very nice but handling that FOREST CHAMPION in person one is inspired by by truly how mint and fine it really is:thumbup: It was just great Charlie spending time with you, Dave, Rick and Barry! Going to the show, eating dinner together and then our nightly "show & tell"--it just doesn't get any better for a knife enthusiast:joyous: Thanks gentlemen for making the show so enjoyable and memorable for me. Many thanks Charlie for spontaneously gifting Levine's Guide #4 to me. I have been on the look out for a copy for sometime but the prices on even poor condition ones is not cheap if they can even be found. It is very much appreciated and will always be treasured by me especially since it came from you!! Thanks also for making some of your folders available for me to purchase. Also want to publicly thank Dave (knowtracks) for the vintage DE he gifted to me and the Schrade Walden pen knife he sold me. And Rick (oldbowie) thanks for sharing your passion and knowledge about Remington knives with me--you inspire me my friend.

I will try to get some photos of my knife purchases posted soon.

I certainly appreciated the photos you posted. Dave and I talk often about that show and I have plans to make it there. I know that the people and the knives there would be a real treat. Looks like I will be holding down the Tulsa tables while Dave is in Oregon next April. Buying vintage pearls from him is how Dave and I linked up. He always has great stuff.

The dust has just settled after another OKCA show. We are all back home now with a little less money! ;)
I want to Thank Charlie, Barry, Lloyd, Dale, Rick and Christine Tucker for their companionship, enthusiasm and upbeat attitude for the whole trip! It really was a Great show!! But the people is what really makes the show special!!

I will start with the displays and the people I shared this trip with this year as I have not taken any pics of the knives I got yet.

Here is the Edwin Forrest Bowie knife display. For those of you that subscribe to Knife Magazine it was on the cover of the September 2016 with the full story inside by Dale Larson, the man who owns the display, Forrest Bowie and many other Antique Bowie's. It really was a Super Impressive Display with information galore!! In fact this display walked away with 1st place!!!:thumbup::thumbup:

Thanks Charlie, all is going well. Just noticed that I mistyped Forest Master instead of Forest Champion, even better than Forest Master.

Great pics of the displays Dave, looking forward to more.
