Well, I am not really certain I want to trade this knife. But I want to see what is out there. If the right trade pops up I'll very seriously consider it. I am interested in high end custom folders i.e.: Horton, Rassenti, Richard Rogers, Strider, Fellhoelter, etc...(depending on the trade offered I will consider +/- cash).
Please don't offer to trade me multiple production or mid -tech knives. If I decide to trade this knife, it will be for a custom.
This is an original Chris Reeve 7" Mark V South Africa made knife, serial number 62. It appears as new, unsharpened, and the only blemishes appear to be handling, and storage marks (see photos). The engraved marking "South Africa" makes this a special knife...but..wait...there is nothing I can tell you about it that Anne Reeve can't say better in an email she sent me about it. So here it is:
The model name is MK V (roman numeral for 5). Number 62 Mk V was made in May/June 1987. The South Africa engraving was prompted by a previous shipment to the USA being stopped at customs because no country of origin was marked on any of the knives. We subsequently had a stamp made that indicated "Made in RSA" but the engraving as on your knife was a stop gap solution. The knife is made of A2 tool steel, Heat treated to 55-57RC, the butt cap is D65S Aluminum - or as we could have called it is SA, aluminium! The coating is KG GunKote (TM).
There are a few blemishes you need to know about and I have really tried to show them in the pictures. The grip cap has dings on the edges, and there are small wear marks where the guard rubbed the sheath. The sheath has handling marks etc. Anne Reeve said the knife could be refinished but it's not advisable because the "South Africa" could fill in and disappear. The cap can be re-coated but may not match the original color, so it's probably best left alone.
I can send more pics for serious inquiries.
It's such a cool and rare knife that I'm gonna need some convincing to trade it.
If you want to text me to discuss feel free the number is 520- four zero four - 8096
