OT: CZ52 f-ing rocks!

I'll come out for the record and say that with 99% of the firearms out there (excluding rimfires), there's absolutely nothing wrong with dryfiring.

I didn't mean I was taught never to dry fire because of potential firing pin damage. I was always taught to treat every gun like it was live. My grandad was in a gun store once where a customer clicked a gun he brought in and nearly shot the owner  So far I have never accidentally shot a gun off, and I think that's why.

Is the CZ52 concealable under a paunch or in a fat man's pocket?;)
If so I might have to start wearing suspenders with my sweat pants. Do you s'posse it would be a dead giveaway or would people just think I was really insecure? ;) :D

A really large man could conceal the CZ 52 without much trouble. As for people thinking that you're insecure, depending on where its concealed they might just think that you're glad to see them. :D

I've gotta get me one of these! Thanks for the link!:D Which is the best ammo for them, the brass case or the FMJ?

I use both. I bought a case of the Romanian from Aim Surplus when I ordered the guns.

This forum has a wealth of info to get you started :

I would order a Bulgarian Makorov also from Aim when you order your CZ 52.

Don't get the Polish Mak--- go with the Bulgy Mak and you might find you have the nearly perfect CCW for less than $150.

To make things easier when you talk to Brian or Chris at AIM order 4 or 5 boxes of bullets at the same time. Fun shooting has never been so easy. Just like Kuks, you'll find yourself
wanting several of each pistol. When you find the CZ that you know was meant just for you then go back to Surplus Rifles and dress her up with the latest in walnut grips, firing pins, etc. There's a place named (Reedsammo.com) that sells custom ammo for the 52. I plan to pick up some of the hollow points. Betcha can't buy just one! ;)

http://reedsammo.com/

Check out the Centerfire .22 caliber Reeds Express Barrel for the CZ-52, that little screamer will torch out over 30 g's @ 2700+fps. That's a .223 AR-15 in your back pocket!

I'd be interested in seeing the ballistics for the Reed's, especially the 60-grain Gold Dot and XTP.

I'm going to check out a box these for expansion and penetration:
7.62x25 100g Hornady XTP-HP
New Exclusively from Reed's Ammunition & Research! .308" bullet diameter
100g Hornady XTP Hollow Point.
This round is a great game round or for self defense. packaged 50 rounds per box.

Hey Y'all,

Speaking of loading the 7.62X25- Do you know of any reloading manuals that cover it? Also what sort of a shell holder do you use? 9mm?

I was looking at some reloading info and performance data on the available ammo and the handloads and it looked to me like all of the handloads listed that had the velocity listed, had much lower velocity than the factory loads? Any idea why? Also I did a short net search, but didn't see any loads reccomended as the most accurate. I'm really surprised at the accuracy of mine with the factory ammo so finding an even more accurate load would be wicked.

I haven't loaded for the 7.62x25 either but can tell you why the reloading info is listed for much weaker loads. Its because the Tokarev shoots the same 7.62x25 as the CZ52. The TOK has a weaker action than the CZ. Too hot reloads can damage the TOK or its shooter.

Oh. That makes sense. Just from looking I bet you use a 9x18 holder. makarov.com says you can shoot 9/18 in them by just changing the barrel so I bet the 9x18 shell holder fits. I have a Makarov too so maybe I'll hold the 2 cartridges together tonight and see if that is correct.

They sold 2 types of ammo at the store and one was a HP. The guy at the store there told me to use the FMJ if I planned to shoot any small game cause some guy came in with pics of rabbits he had hit with the HP's and they were shredded to the point of not being edible.

Probably be good for like deer or defense, but I don't think you can hunt larger game in this state with .30 caliber pistol. Has to be bigger. My main plan for mine is just a fun cheap gun, that I can shoot accurately. May go for the heavier spring since I got the trigger pull reducing firing pin for better accuracy, but probably leave it at that ;)

Clearblue, do you know of any 7.62x25 load data for those 100gr Hornadays?

Thx

No-Only what Reeds is showing but they seem to be very accomodating and would probably email you what you want to know, if available.

This is my first order with Reeds and if their product is acceptable, then I'll also order some of the 9X18 Makarov rounds.

I tested the penetration of 9mm para Winchester HP on the telephone book and the bullet stopped at 5 inches. The 7.62X25 passed through 8 inches and went too far into the tree trunk to worry with trying to dig out. :)

I have some of the Romanian. Its both reliable and accurate. 1224rds in the spam can at $119.95 is a great price. Be sure that they give you the great big can opener (no kidding). If the opener breaks like mine did, you can use a hammer and chisel to open the can. Just be careful not to hit the cartridges.

"Is it corrosive?" All surplus 7.62x25 ammo is corrosive. Be sure to thoroughly clean your gun or it will rust badly. I use Windex with 5% ammonia to clean and give it a second cleaning with Shooters Choice which also has ammonia. The ammonia neutralizes the corrosive salts and makes it easy to remove.

Thanks for the info. I've got two "unissued" CZ52's and one tin of the Romanian ammo on order, I'll probably order some of the hollow points from Reed's as well.

Took this out shooting again last weekend. I'm no William Tell with it (More like William Burroughs :p ) but I'm getting a little more consistent. I'm terrible at counting holes, must be some latent dyslexia, but I managed to get 21 (I think I count) out of 24 shots on the paper at 25 yards.

I think you have to sign up to view this folder but since some are I'll go ahead and post it

hollowdweller, are you still using the ammo you got from the gun shop ? I ordered some of it as well as some of the surplus from AIM. I also ordered a box of their hollow points to try as well. Just wondering if the ammo you got from mokarov.com is good stuff.

I got my two CZ52's today from MGS:) and they are as advertised and are in unissued condition, they are in great shape. Bores look perfect and magazines look new as well. No rebuild marks and nice gray parkerization.

Now if I just had some ammo I could tell you how they shoot. ;)

I like to initial zero with 5 rounds at 7 paces and adjust the rear sight right or left as necessary until I can get the rounds to strike on or very close to a 3/4 inch circle. For zero the pistol is braced for steadiness.

The target I use is the little 3/4 inch circles of different colors that you can buy at any office supply store or Walmart. I stick the circle onto a post-it,stick the post-it on a cardboard box--that way I can keep the target for reference.

Depending on the size of your paper getting 21 out of 24 on target at 25 yards sounds mighty good with open sights.

CARman,

Yes still using the 85 grain stuff from Mak.com. It works great as far as I can see. Their site says 1600 fps? and 1640 for the hollow points. I've only found about 50% of the brass though.

Clearb.,

The target is 8 1/2 X 11. I downloaded the targets and printed them from www.targetz.com they have a lot of difft designs and free! Well glad for your input on the accuracy aspect.

I love mine! Finally some people who know what the CZ-52 is! :)

I lucked out..mine has the slot on the back strap for a shoulder stock!
