Alright, I gotta vent a little. I purchased an FNX45 a few years ago, but due to the fact that I typically carry other guns, I haven't done anything with it. So two weeks ago I decided to take it out and run it. Well, when I started manipulating the magazine release, it would not work. The mag would not drop and when I finally got the mag to drop, the button would move to one side or the other and inserted mags would not stay in. So basically it is a one magazine use only with no reloads. I googled the issue and sure enough, this is a known issue, that FN has not bothered to find a fix for. The sad part is that I love the design of this gun. I ordered a new mag release button and I am going to fine sand/polish to see if that solves the problem.

I am always on the lookout for something nicer. I like the FN series of pistols, but this lack of QC worries me. I have seen the lack of QC frequently with Sig pistols and rifles over decades and have learned not to trust them, but I thought FN would be better. Anyone else have an FNX45?

I have not had one. My father just got an FN5.7,seems like a nice pistol.
I picked up a Kimber TLE ll commander in stainless a week or two back. Really liking it. I replaced the plastic main spring housing Kimber uses with an Ed Brown. Wasn't drop in on mine but the fitting wasn't to bad. Not really gotten it to a range to really test it out yet but did get off a few rounds yesterday to check function after the part swap. I was impressed. 3 shot groups holes touching at 50 ft dead on point of aim.

I have been jonesing for a 5.7 since I have an ar57 and goodies

had a FNX45 tactical in FDE, sold it and used the money to buy a knights sr25.

the fn was nice but i went to all 9mm since my pistol suppressors are 9mms lol.

I had fnx awhile back , traded it for nib px4 storm .40. Everything else is SiG ... I do miss my 1911s though but they got traded for long guns

Cobalt, I have the predecessor to yours, the FNP and it has no issues with over 1,000 rounds downrange. My buddy has another one with a few less rounds through it and it is just as smooth as mine. Very comfortable and very accurate. Works great with an RMR on the top, especially with the cowitness. I picked up enough mags when they were on clearance that I no longer have the urge to consider trading up to the FNX like I once did.

I hope you are able to resolve the issue easily as I am sure once corrected you will love it if it is anything like the FNP. ;) You did not mention if you contacted FN about it?

I'm sure I'll get plenty of backlash from haters, but I'm gonna say Glock. I've shot several brands to the breaking point, and Glock is still the champ. A G19 is possibly the top carry pistol.

Tim, I did not contact FN because the people on the gun forums have and the response was "there is no problem". Denial, like politicians. Some guys have filed the hole that the mag release goes in. I do not like messing with the frame, but the safety is metal and filing that will be tougher. I will start with that first. Apparently, there is flex in these frames that causes the mag release to stick. One guy that filed his mag release opening, solved the problem.

I think glock is one of the all time ugliest pistols ever made. However, it is also one of the all time greatest pistols ever made. It is the literal AK of handguns. I have a Glock 21, that I purchased in 1993. I have easily put 30,000 rounds through it and it has never jammed. Not once has it ever failed to feed one round. I have never owned any other gun like that. My second glock, a model 22, ran for 12 years and over 30k rounds. And again not one failure. My current glock 23 is at around 10k rounds and no issues at all ever in the last 6 years. They run and run and run.

A friend of mine purchased one of the original mod 17, when they first came out. We use to abuse that thing so much. Heavy handloads and even one time he mistakenly put a light load in one round. I fired it and it sounded strange. But it chambered another round. I did not know that the round had never left the barrel. I fired the second round and that was much LOUDER, BANG!. I saw where the two rounds hit the target at the same time. No damage to the gun.

Still, I like sexy guns. I wish Browning had continued developing the hi-power and maintained a good price on it. My favorite 9mm of all time is the Hi-power.

I currently have a FNX .45 and never have had one issue with it. I’ll take it to the range every now and then but never carry it. I’m going to pull it out of the safe and play with it to see if I can get it to do what yours is doing.

I'm a 1911 guy always have been...but the Browning Hi Power is the Sexiest Gun ever!

This is why I don't go for the newest pistol. I don't buy a model unless it's been out a while . Gotta have all the bugs worked out first. I don't carry but my current is a Kimber pro carry ii in .45acp. it's more accurate than my full sized 1991a1

I love my 5.7 pistol. That and my PS90 are a pretty slick combo.

Cobalt Cobalt -- Hard to beat anything designed by John Moses Browning ... maybe you should've stuck with your signature line. Why tempt fate by messing with perfection?

I kid, I kid. :p

Truly sorry you're getting the run-around from FN.

I've heard the same complaints on the FN and have stayed away because of them.

I'm an old fart that wants all metal everything and manual controls so you know I'm a fan of the HiPower ... but have you ever owned/shot anything in the CZ75 line? I have an SP01 >>> They're amazing :thumbsup::thumbsup:

I have a couple FNs and never had an issue other than them needing a good breaking period, but I’ve decided I’m gonna dump em for a couple new toys. Big thing is I’m tired of plastic guns, they are a dime a dozen, maybe it’s because I like knives so much, so I’m gonna grab a Wilson EDC X9 for my carry and an STI Omni for other use.

For some reason I always seem to get guns that have problems like that. Doesn't seem matter what brand or how much they cost. The list of failures vs. proper operating guns would make you think I was cursed.
