OT: GUNS

I just took a count of the guns I've bought brand new and there were eleven that were good to go right out of the box and ten that weren't. That's pretty sad.

My list of problem children......

Taurus .357 snubbie - cylinder wouldn't close after first ten rounds fired

Beretta 92fs - shot so far to one side that the sights couldn't be lined up without the rear sight hanging halfway off the slide.

Browning Silver - broken gas piston spring

Browning Maxus - broken gas piston spring

Benelli SBE2 - double feeds and stovepiped with Kent ammo

Winchester 70 .270wsm - factory cases stick in chamber

Remington 552 speedmaster - sights installed crooked

Cz Redhead Deluxe - ejector both pop even if only one shot was fired.

Cz 452 Trainer - bolt would get stuck in rearward position when trying to work the action quickly.

Remington 7400 carbine - chamber reamed wrong or chip at the neck/shoulder juncture of the chamber.

...even one time he mistakenly put a light load in one round. I fired it and it sounded strange. But it chambered another round. I did not know that the round had never left the barrel. I fired the second round and that was much LOUDER, BANG!. I saw where the two rounds hit the target at the same time. No damage to the gun.

Wow! You must be living right ;)

Sorry to hear about the problems with the FN Cobalt. Never had an FN but had to send back a Sig 238, a Colt WWI, and just received new replacement trigger assy's for a CZ Scorpion. It sucks that FN won't step up to the plate if this is a well known issue, however, I read about some of the CZ Omega's having issues and CZ hasn't stepped up yet on those either.

I can't say anything bad about a Glock other than they are ugly and do not lend themselves to personalizing very much. I have a G23 Gen 3 I carry a good bit. I did replace the barrel with a Lone Wolf and got better accuracy.

Alright, I gotta vent a little. I purchased an FNX45 a few years ago, but due to the fact that I typically carry other guns, I haven't done anything with it. So two weeks ago I decided to take it out and run it. Well, when I started manipulating the magazine release, it would not work. The mag would not drop and when I finally got the mag to drop, the button would move to one side or the other and inserted mags would not stay in. So basically it is a one magazine use only with no reloads. I googled the issue and sure enough, this is a known issue, that FN has not bothered to find a fix for. The sad part is that I love the design of this gun. I ordered a new mag release button and I am going to fine sand/polish to see if that solves the problem.

I am always on the lookout for something nicer. I like the FN series of pistols, but this lack of QC worries me. I have seen the lack of QC frequently with Sig pistols and rifles over decades and have learned not to trust them, but I thought FN would be better. Anyone else have an FNX45?

Had a FN9, sold it and got a Sphinx SDP, fine pistol!

Cobalt Cobalt -- Hard to beat anything designed by John Moses Browning ... maybe you should've stuck with your signature line. Why tempt fate by messing with perfection?

I kid, I kid. :p

Truly sorry you're getting the run-around from FN.

I've heard the same complaints on the FN and have stayed away because of them.

I'm an old fart that wants all metal everything and manual controls so you know I'm a fan of the HiPower ... but have you ever owned/shot anything in the CZ75 line? I have an SP01 >>> They're amazing :thumbsup::thumbsup:
Metal is GOOD....I like Petite carry....Detonics Combat Master...One blue one Stainless both from back in the early '80's compact 45 power. Great design unfortunate they couldn't sustain production:(:(

Yes, I should have not chanced the FNX as it was fairly new, but the design looked like it would work well. My bad. I am sure the fix is a simple one. But when you pay 600-700 for a gun, you do not expect issues out of the box. I have plenty of 1911's so no worries there. But for daily concealed carry, 1911's are way to heavy.

the fnp was a good gun. You might want to try that, unless fn in general left a good enough taste for your to avoid it. I LOVE my sig handguns but will never buy another friggin rifle or PCC from them again. Got a 556, a 556xi as well and then poof no support and they disappeared , also burned with a Gen 1 MPX same shit dif platform. I as well don't like glocks. Milled solid steel slide with Aluminum frame and hammer over striker all the way for me. Not a big Poly frame or unsupported chamber fan.

Up until this I would have bought an fn with full confidence

I was not aware of all the sig issues. Only sig I have is an echo1.

Sorry to hear about the problems with you FNX, Cobalt. I have no experience with FN pistols, but I do have an FN carbine. It’s been completely flawless, and is more accurate than I am.

Lined the end of the Rucki up with the bottom of the buttstock for scale. Sorry for the link, but none of the pic tutorials have worked for my iPad.

FN has a good rep, so this is why this bothers me and it is a known issue. I will try to fix myself

I sell the ones that don’t work well for me and keep the ones that do. Only FN I have is the 5.7 and it’s a keeper! All my glocks are keepers. My HK USP, keeper. Kel Tecs are gone. Rugers are all sold. Only Taurus I kept was the Judge.

Was considering going for either another FN or HK and now I’m leaning twards HK. Some say it’s an expensive Glock, but hey, USUALLY, you get what you pay for!

I have a first gen Springfield XD, made right after they bought the design from Croatia that has in excess of 30k through with no malfunctions of ANY kind, regardless of ammo quality.

There's a reason there are 6 or 7 different ones at my house.

Hope you get it corrected, Cobalt. Not much worse than a 700 dollar paperweight, except a more expensive paperweight

I beg to differ. I just got my Glock Store catalog and you can personalize the hell out of a Glock! You can almost make one as pretty as my Kimber Sapphire Ultra ll. Okay, not that pretty.:D

Yea but as much as it is gonna cost you to customized a Glock, you can buy a high end custom gun.

Cobalt Cobalt if you like a 1911, but the weight is a concern for carry, check out the Wilson EDC X9. Double stack 9mm, 1911 design. It’s what I’m moving to for my EDC

I don't know about that, my Colt Defender is not bad at all. The Kimber TLE ll is heavy but it is all stainless steel. I have been thinking about a Kimber Micro 9, not really a 1911 but close. Seems like it may be a perfect summer carry.

I played with my FNX .45 and couldn’t get it to replicate your problems. Funny enough out of all my guns Sig, FN, CZ, HK, Springfield, Glock, Kimber, S&W, all my 1911’s the most issues I’ve experienced have been with the HK P30. Hard to run a clean magazine through it without a stove pipe or some type of malfunction.

The Kimber Solo's are nice little guns, too.
