OT: Hang on, Mike !!!

It's a Cat 4 now. :(

Bug out Mike. Let us know if we can help any way.

Steve
Bugging out Sat. after the plywood is up. We're in a mandatory Cat. 1 evacuation zone. I'll be at my job all day  while my wife is doing a lot. Moving boat tonite to an elevated neighbors.

Gas- is already sold out/long lines as of last night

I will say the forecasters have been consistent with the path.

Some people are panicking. Others are resigned. All are getting ready... for something that just shouldn't be.

For decades nothing has hit Pensacola. Now 3 in 10 months.

How many FEMA trailers (temporary housing for Ivan victims) are going to wind up in the water? All of 'em, I'd guess.

Pensacola Beach no longer has dunes to help stop this surge- they were wiped flat with Ivan- so even less protection.

Ancient inhabitants of the Gulf Coast worshipped and feared a god called Hurakan, origin of our word for these storms.

The fear of this god is now in all of us.

My God, Mike:( Just hang in there and get the hell out of Dodge, buddy. You do what you can do, dot your I's and cross your T's. We'll do what we can do, smoke, prayers and worry ourselves sick. Then we can all work together when it's over to get you back to some kind of normalcy. Smoke up this morning, afternoon, and tonight. Praying that Dennis decides landfall isn't worth killing himself over and moves out to sea to spin out his days. Nearly impossible, but still hoping anyway. Keep us posted when you can.

Jake

Winds now at 150mph, gusts to 185. Tracking still dead at us.

Thanks, Jake & John. You guys are the best.

Jake pretty much said it all. We'll be pulling for you, each in our own way. And everyone else who's in FL.

Good luck to you man, I went through a few of those myself, though not a cat 4 that I can remember. Keep safe, head north, and remember nothing you own is worth more than your life, family excluded.

I'm new and all, so not sure how exactly to go about putting up smoke for you, but i'll definatly put up a toast for your luck and safety. Be cool.

Hang tough and get the hell out! I'm in Sarasota and we're all keeping our eyes wide open after what happened last year.

Tak a lot of photos of everything in your house for your records and get out if you can.

Good luck!

David

I don't know what your job is but I'd seriously think about taking the rest of the time left to take care of my home.

Good luck my friend.

As I said in the other thread, many prayers for your safety and well being.

I've been extremely busy with work the past few days, but you've been in my thoughts frequently, Mike.

Best wishes,

Noah

Thanks, Noah & everyone.

Still under the red dot- the hurricane models are leading straight here, and have for a couple days. House is boarded. Boat on high ground & blocked (used a sharp khuk to cut trees that would scratch it.)

Most garage stuff is in livingroom. Our LR got wet in Ivan (10 ft surge) but valuable stuff is higher.

We can survive a direct hit from a cat. 1 or 2 OK. You'd lose your pier & decks but we already did and can't afford to rebuild (yet, luckily). We got a dirty side/direct hit of a 3 with Ivan and only semi-survived. A direct hit or dirty side from a 4 or 5 and we're done. The storm surge is the important thing. Of course 150mph winds will flatten everything everywhere but we're on the water.

Psychological aspect- interesting. Some are flat out panicked, some pissed. My wife and I seem OK and I'm not sure why. Intellectually we know what we're in for but the work is keeping us too busy to really think about it. Resigned; I guess that's the word. Months of bad psych stuff come with the losses but I've covered that somewhere before.

Bugged out this aft. to uncle's house in Pensacola. Evacuation started last nite. Traffic bad. No gas at'all to be had, but I just topped off with 5 gal cans we just happened to have. ;)

OK. Shutting down. Back hurts a lot and still a lot to do.

Thank you all for your positive thoughts and help. The Cantina is a real place, with real people who care. I will miss greatly not being here in the days to come. I think of many of you as close friends I *will* meet someday.

-----------

Thanks again for the collective strength you have given me in the past to overcome obstacles and make a better life for myself and my family.

-----------

I will face what comes with clarity, courage & spirit, as any of you would.

-----------

See you on the other side.

AYO GHORKALI!!!

Looks like the Tampa Bay Area is dodging the bullet this time. We're getting a tropical storm at most. Hang in there Mike. Glad you got out. Smart move.

Way to keep your chin up, Mike:) Take your time, unwind as much as possible, and stay thankful for the important stuff...as you always seem to. The Cantina will be here when you get back. Hopefully to share in the amazing story of how the hurricane of '05 actually split in two and went right around your homestead leaving only warm calming waves and rainbows;) If there is anything any of us can do, just drop us a line. i'm sure SOMEONE has some MRE's that they can share if need be;) ~Smoke up~
