OT: Hang on, Mike !!!

Looks pretty bad out there:( Mike, I hope you got outta there. Mucho smoke for our southern brothers and neighbors.

The flightline here at Wright-Patt AFB is filling up with refugees from Egland AFB and other bases...

Smoke to the coast...

.

Here is the next installment in bowling for cities....I can really learn to hate the hurricane season.

Thanks, everybody.

We were in the eye.

Here's some pix of the aftermath.

We appreciate all the smoke & wishes. It could have been better, it could have been worse. Lost chimney, wall, foundation... Saved washer & dryer (up on blocks). Air conditioner I saved by roping it to the stand- base broke free- woulda blown off. Screw heads sheared off, lost some plywood.

Work minimized losses. Thank you all.

:) I feel wrong in expressing happiness in the face of what you've lost but I can't help it knowing how much worse it could have been. :)

It looks like you have some real work ahead of you again Mike. but it also looks like your house is repairable. even liveable maybe?

ayways, I am glad to hear you came through ok, all things considered. The reported storm surge had me thinking the worst.

If not then you ought to think of hurricane resistant homes. Monolithic Domes comes to mind. Try Del Tec homes as well. Countless billions of dollars each year could be saved if some sort of hurricane zone home design were mandated.

Great to hear from you, AA.

Was expecting to hear a lot worse, based on the news.

Whatcha doin' with a chimney in Florida, anyway?

Thanks, roughedges. House is temporarily livable, must demo- again- wet wallboard for mold.

2 stories this time.

S., wish I could afford a dome- a shack is about all I can swing!

Flood insurance will not pay one cent for any damage below the "main living level" which is the livingroom- meaning, nothing for the foundation or garage damage. that's why we put up the W&D- ones lost in Ivan were not paid for.

Lawnmower made it- in the livingroom!

Aa- North Florida gets plenty cold- thirties, twenties, teens. A fire is nice.

Cold, and hurricanes too. What a great place to live. At least we have no crime. Low-paying jobs, though.

Glad you made it through. Insurance companies are the real demons in the world. Hope you guys get things fixed in record time this year.

Well, you're right, Mike. it could have been a lot worse. I'm glad that you still have a home, though. Not that you dodged any bullet, but the way the TV was talking you would have thought Dennis was going to castrate this great nation sending the entire state of Florida adrift;) We know you have a lot of work to get done. If there is anything we can do beyond smoke and prayers, let us know.

Glad to see you back in one piece.

Have you considered growing legs?

Thanks.

It's on half-story pilings.

LR 10 ft above sea level; just barely enough. Even the garage is 5'6" above flood plain.

No exposed wood frame house survives a cat 4 or 5, so the extra height wouldn't matter much.... can't afford to anyways.
