I know a lot of us are into neat lights. I'm looking for yet another one to add to the EDC drawer.

I need recommendations on a light with these features;
LED
Variable output
Prefer something in a Surefire G2/C2 size
Like it to use AA (preferred) or 123 cells
Not be expensive enough to hurt the BBB (Busse Buying Budget)

Thanks in advance!!!!!

Surefire U2.

You would not believe how easy this is on batteries. Seoul ssc P4.

check into the nitecore line.... lots of nifty controls at a fairly cheap price i have an ex10 and it works out pretty well , it isnt the brightest but it sure is nice for edc

I think County Comm has a single AA light that might meet your specs. Especially the budget.

I love the Novatac 120P LED light. Incredibly compact and incredibly bright (and variable).

I have two of them. One is in my computer bag, and the other is kept in my vehicle.

Check out the Fenix line. They are great, much smaller than the G2 and much, much brighter.

This site has lots of choices. I've bought from them before and received good service. http://www.4sevens.com/

Surefire E2D LED is a great light, I carried one every day til I recently sent it to ChuddyBear to have a holster made for it.Runs off 2x123 cells and is almost exceedingly bright on high. It fit in my pocket well and was easy to carry. Since then I have been carrying one of the Surefire E1B Backups, it is an amazing light. Runs off a single 123 cell and is as bright as I have needed for any day to day task so far, and also for night work on the jobsite. I recommend both highly. I work industrial construction and they have been dropped, abused, covered in concrete spatter, rained on and the E2D even went through the wash twice. Both still work like new. If either one ever breaks and I can't get it warrantied for some reason, I will buy another immediately anyway.

I picked up a Surefire E1B awhile back to replace my (non led) E2D. It's great, smaller, brighter with one 123 cell, and dual output 5/80. It's easy on batts, and the switch works well, first tap or click is high second tap or click is low power, then it resets to high when you turn it off. Newer led bulbs aren't supposed to burn out... we'll see.
I did replace the tail cap switch out to a defender style (blunt spikes) mostly to protect the switch, don't want to inadvertently blind someone if it turned on in a bar or burn a hole in my jeans, as the stock switch is very exposed.
The new T1A looks cool/small but $240, must be from the fancy variable switch.

The most recent light I bought is a Fenix TK40.

4 different levels of output, ranging from a few lumens up to 630. It has a strobe, a slow flash, a fast flash, and SOS flash (3 short, 3 long, 3 short).

It takes 8 AA batteries, and runtime ranges from 150 hours on low setting to 2 hours on turbo mode.

I like it.

I think I paid $159.

But I think it's a bit bigger than what you're looking for.

I use my Novatac 120 almost every day. a perfect EDC light for me.
the Nitecore D10 is a nice little flashlight too. great variable output, also.

Another pic of the U2. I have carried it daily for about a year. Working night and day. Used a lot for inspections.

Please don't laugh at the old B&W of my dog:o That was my first attempt at action/processing/printing with a POS camera a good amount of years ago.

Grab a malkoff dropin for your C2 if you can deal without the variable power level. Whatever you get, you should try out a warm/neutral tint LED. They're way better for actually seeing things than the bluish white led's most folks are used to. Check out a fenix TK20 for low/high output modes, AA batteries, and warm tint LED.

I got a Fenix L2d Premium 100 (now a few years old) for about $60.

IIRC Max Lumens is 180 off of two AA batteries. Runtime is not quite an hour at max, and another half hour at reduced brightness before it dies.

It generally kicks the snot out of most other flashlights in it's size range. You can still find other LED flashlights for $10 that perform just as well, they just need to be the type that use a half dozen batteries. (So you can get the same performance at a greatly reduced cost if you're willing to shell out for the power consumption.)

I have to second the quark AA2. Freakin awesome light and great features for the price. Also check out the ITP A3 for a smaller light that still packs an 80 lumen punch on one AAA battery.

I'll throw out another vote for the Novatac 120P (CR123, programmable), although it may be more than you want to spend. I got a pewter one for $150 and don't regret it one bit.

If you don't use a pocket clip, the Nitecore D10 R2 (AA battery) is a great pickup...great price for the features. I returned mine though b/c I wanted a pocket clip that would work, and the installation of it is hell on earth.

I gave a Fenix L0D (3 level, single AAA) to everyone on my list to hang on their keyring. Replace my MM Solitaire

Little smaller than your op, but good bang for the buck

Mister Busse owns a Made in the USA company. Part of the reason I buy Busse-esque knives is due to this fact. I just got my first folder in a while - a Moore Maker lockback. . . made in the USA.

Despite the higher prices, I'd go Surefire. I ashamedly have a Fenix - I just wanted to see what it could do. Great lite. Made in China. Bleech!
