OT: LED Flashlight Question

Mister Busse owns a Made in the USA company. Part of the reason I buy Busse-esque knives is due to this fact. I just got my first folder in a while - a Moore Maker lockback. . . made in the USA.

Despite the higher prices, I'd go Surefire. I ashamedly have a Fenix - I just wanted to see what it could do. Great lite. Made in China. Bleech!

Thank goodness someone said it!

BUY USA!

Surefires are not made in the USA. They might make some components here but they are not made here. LA County Sheriffs have just OK'd the switch to the full line of www.extremebeamtactical.com . They give 4-10 times the brightness as well as battery life runs an average of 3hrs on there super high! I was at the weapons training facility on Wednesday and saw the demo. They are incredible and according to those guys the LAPD is also all over them as well. They are a military contract light that is finally getting into the civilian world! I ordered mine from the rep that did the demo at the LACS's facility. Pretty amazing stuff. They have a one cell cr123 that smokes any G2 and it comes with rechargeable batteries. I ordered one of those SAR 5's and the SX21R for my 12 guage. Check em out they are the hottest lights out. It was amazing to see 15 and 20 yr veteran of the sheriffs dept getting fired up about these lights. Thats why I snagged a couple.

I am no expert and am probably wrong for thinking Surefire flashlights are made in the USA.

Here is a quote:

Earlier today I emailed Surefire about where they were made and heres the response

Dear Sir,
SureFire Suppressors and Edged Weapons are made entirely in the USA, most SureFire flashlight components are made at our California factory, and all components are designed and assembled in the USA. As much as possible, SureFIre uses components made in the United States of America. You may be interested in knowing that our flashlights do fall within the Department of Defense’s qualifications for being of US origin, which are somewhat less restrictive than the FTC’s.

Thank you

I remember around the time I was looking to buy the U2A I was worried about where they are made. I believe through hours of reading on CPF I decided they were atleast made in the USA enough if that makes sense.

Anyhow, this sounds like a long discussion that may or may not have already been discussed over at CPF.

thanks for the link to those lights.

Doesn't look like the S.A.R.5 has a low power setting, if it did it would be just about perfect.
Wouldn't mind trying those 4.2 volt rechargables in my Surefire, to see how much more light it put out and for how long.

The Surefire L1 is my favorite. I use it every night.

They use 1 AAA battery though (80 lumens-variable model available). Check out his site, they have a nice selection to choose from.

Bought an O-Light M30 Triton (700 lumens) from him, brightest lite I own. May be too big for what you want (7"x1.75"x1"), but it sure is nice. They also have a couple others that put out the 700 lumens but reach farther. One uses AA's.

Great service and great products.

Hope this helps

Big flashaholic and have owned dozens of Surefires and other higher-end lights.

-If you like a twisty user interface, I would recommend the new Surefire LX2.

-If you like a clicky user interface, I would recommend the Surefire E2DL or Ra Clicky 140-Tactical.

I edc the Ra 140-T and my LX2 is always in my edc bag or pocket when I'm in the country.

I have sold most of my Surefires as the LX2/Ra combo just cannot be touched.

-If you want a less expensive route, the Surefire E2L is also a great light and sits on my nightstand - the high is only 65 lumens (as compared to the 200 of the LX2) but it is still plenty bright with a KILLER seven hour runtime as opposed to the two hours on the LX2...

I also own six various Malkoff drop-ins and they really cant be beat for the $$ if you already have a C2/6P/G2 to upgrade... And Gene is a stand-up guy

Good luck - some great options out there right now!

Take a look at the surefire E1B Backup. Uses 1 CR123 but sure is bring and pocket friendly! FYI I carry it everyday in slacks. :D

I EDC a McGizmo LunaSol20 and am PERFECTLY satisfied with it after months of use. It is going to bite into the BBB, but it's full Ti, and put together by hand in Hawaii.

You could loom for a McGizmo Al PDs and probably get it for about $250. Otherwise, Novatac and Nitecore make good lights. For the money, though, and warranty (plus being made in the US) I would probably look into Surefire's products. If you can find an A2 led I think you'd be very happy.

In my opinion, the piston drive just can not be beat, but if you're into Clicky lights, the Ra gets a lot of love. Or you can go with the McGizmo Haiku. Full Y
Ti, and a three-speed clicky.

I dont know if that is older quote but I pinned a rep down and he said they used to make alot of parts here but that has changed dramatically to over seas so i guess i bought as close to USA as SF. The EBT rep also mentioned that they have been filling lots of US military orders so I guess they must comply like the others. I got my SAR5 and my SX21R and they are bad to the bone and smoke all 7 of my other brand lights! Im getting another on payday and getting my sons dialed in for xmas as well. Ext Beam Tac has same lifetime warranty as Busse and they are USA designed and owned as well. They only charged me $10 shipping and i got my package four days after i orderered from the rep at LA County Sheriffs range! Ive been scouring their website and there is lots of great info there. Good luck on your search!

ill post pics when i get it mounted up!

Thanks for all the great replies.

I need to add though, that I am not looking for a SureFire. I own too many of these lights already.

Price range I'm looking at right now is less than $50.00, something I won't be overly torn up over having it lost, stolen, or broken.

Looking for something to replace my every day work flashlight. Need something with adjustable output. Full power washes out small numbers on electronic components, while I some time need full power to see inside control panels.

Thanks, all

I have a nitecore defender infinity on my ar15... great tiny bright light for the application and rugged .... but i will have to say for single c123 lights i like the ex10 more.... user light setting , twistie and clicky piston drive at below 70 bucks price point....

i have a tk10 and tk11... and frankly with any of these lights the ability to use rechargables is a must.... (gotta free up some money for knives right?)

I'm not sure who makes a variable power light in the range.. that might be the hard part.

If anyone wants Surefire.... I can set you up!
