OT: Need a new rifle and would like some opinions

For an extra $500 you can buy an extra barrel and bolt with the arak and switch between 7.62 and 5.56 in about 5 minutes. Can't confirm that though since I dont have mine yet

My wife and I both run LWRC rifles (we have ICs and REPRs) If you ever plan on getting a can, a piston is the way to go. It has an adjustable gas block to help mitigate back pressure from the can and will prevent over cycling of the bolt. Fit and finish is great, good warranty and good customer service. I would send you to check out Modern Outfitters as well. They are a distributor for several manufacturers, but they also build rifles as well. I'm getting ready to order a 300 Blackout SBR from them.

Oh and a piston is cleaner than a DI

Can also check out LaRue. They own their whole process, even make their own barrels.

The only suppressor I can see me running anytime soon is a silencerco sparrow and I'm trying real real hard to not get one. With in the next 3 weeks or less I gotta pick a rifle I just wish I could get a REC 7 in hand all the others are in stock at 2 of my local dealers so I'll be able too actually hold and inspect what I'm buying. Also both dealers have the suppressor I want too!

Lots of great ones out there for sure. I am in the build your own camp but if you arent interested in that then the DD would get my vote.

Avoid the SCAR like the plague if you intend to run an optic and putting a largish number of round through it, this gun eats optics even in the Light (5.56) configuration. There may be other systems out there that have this same tendency, though I can't recall names at this point.

PWS is pretty hard to beat for a piston gun, IMO. If I was going impingement I'd look towards Noveske, Knights, Suarez or Larue.

I have a couple POFs, I really like them. If I'd go piston again I'd look at LMT or Primary Weapon Systems

I know it's a little light compared to what you're looking at, but the Sig MPX with a suppressor is a blast too :)

No matter what rifle, a suppressor is a must. Makes shooting way more fun

Another great option to look at is Patriot Ordnance Factory. They've been making piston based ar15s since wayyyy before all the other companies jumped on the wagon.

For what it is worth the customer service provided by DD is shockingly good. Absolutely through the roof in my experience.

The F18 doesn't have a piston and neither does my AR.
Nothing wrong with DI. Piston adds more moving parts and weight and gain nothing.
YMMV

I am not saying what is the best gun, each individual has to decide this on his or hers own requirements, needs etc. The Scar is used by the U.S. Military (USSOCOM) special operations Command, and has passed stringent military testing, not sure I understand the statement about avoiding it if you shoot a lot (Ammo for 308 is more expensive than .223) It has proven itself on the Battlefield. It is expensive, so that is definitely a consideration, it is not perfect, the charging handle takes some getting use to, and the stock is really not the good, but it fires the 308 cartridge flawlessly, and does not have much more recoil than my Colt M4 in 223. Oh yea I forgot to mention a lot of people Don't like Colt's either, and that's fine, they have only been the Standard issued firearm for the Military for about 40 Years or so.

If I ever buy another AR it is going to be from Quality Arms Idaho. I took a very thorough look at the reciprocating side charging DI ar's this guy makes at the Missoula Gun Show and they were excellent build quality yet lightweight. He also has left ejection that works for southpaws. The owner used to build missiles so he takes precision seriously and it shows. Having the gas vent on both sides logically alleviates the single sided swirling flow of exhaust that induces crud buildup found in the traditional DI design. All of them cycled very smooth with very clean breaking triggers. Pardon the crappy cell pic from the show.

What I said was higher round counts AND running optics, these guns eat optics and it is a known fact at this point. Do some research and you will see…. it matters not what contracts this platform has when an individual is choosing a platform.

I could not agree with you more-Your point is well taken, sometimes e-mails and posts are truly hard to understand what meaning the sender is trying to convey.

Surprised no one has mentioned LaRue. Their stuff is top notch, I love my PredatAR. I'd like to snag another one. Pricey, but they are machined perfectly and guarantee sub MOA out of the box. Never had one issue with mine.

I'll chime in and say go with an Arsenal sam7sf-84 folding stock in 7.62x39mm. Amazing rifle with a forged milled receiver and cold hammer-forged chrome-lined barrel, and will shoot 1" groups with cheap ammo. 7.62x39 right now is very cheap as well as the mags. So for $2000 you can get the rifle, a case of ammo, and couple of quality mags. Plus it is bound to be collectable as it is an import. I am an ak guy myself and own a couple of arsenals; all very nice and accurate rifles.

I am very pleased with my MK 114. Accuracy out to the 200 yards I have tested it is phenomenal. It is light, very reliable, and they are a great American company to work with. In my experience they have also completely solved the carrier tilt issue.

Well at this point I've been able too locate a dealer in VA who has most of y'all's suggestions and now I'm just waiting on a check too arrive. It's gonna be odd for me to step away from RRA I really like them but I know I'm missing out on other quality rifles.

Bob's Gun Shop in Norfolk will create a trust for you for free if you purchase a suppressor from them. Just wanted to let ya know in case you didn't.
