OT- Orders (It's been fun)

John:

Best of luck, safe trip, and many blessings.

I have a spare CRKT M16 that's yours if you want it.

F. I mean, 'Darn'.

Please post or email if there's anything I can do.

Funny, when I think of asking for gun/home defense advice, your name comes to mind (nothing against anyone else here). Maybe it's Oleg's pics. Dunno. Never got around to asking you anything. Just not the right time.

Will miss you, John. Please post when you can.

Don't know if it's been mentioned, but let us know if there's anything you need. PLEASE be safe. Sorry, monitor is getting fuzzy.

Thanks so much to everyone. I'll definitely keep you advised.

I'm an 11C, so I don't have high hopes of staying out of the stuff.

I'm an agnostic, but I do believe prayer works, so I gladly take any prayers or blessing y'all want to bestow.

Heh. For all y'all designers, the ideal infantry knife should have a blade of 4" or just under, a sturdy sheath that can be attached to BA or LBV, a lanyard hole, and a guard. And it should be cheap, so Joe can and will buy one, and not cry when it gets damaged or lost.

Thanks. (Just thought I'd use the pulpit. ;) :D )

sorry to hear of your deployment. The following is the "official" Canadian Issue Knife. It pretty much meets all your requirements, and one can be one it's way ASAP.

Jump Knife

Best of luck to you, Spectre. Don't think any religion is the ONE TRUE religion but I think honor and intelligence create opportunities. You seem to have both in abundance. With a little luck you will do well I am sure. And thank you for defending our country. Without men like you where would we be indeed.

Please check in when you can, but if you can't for any length of time, know that you're in all our thoughts and prayers.

Best of luck to you, and may the whole thing (somehow, some way) turn into a positive experience for you.

Well F***! There's just never any goddamn rest for the good guys!!!!:grumpy:

John take it easy and coveryerass all the time! Will send Smoke that the Gods will watch over and protect you even when you're the most alert, or think you are, as well as during the quiet times too.
Like the rest of the guys if there's something you need that I can provide just name it and it's yours.;)

And, what is an 11C if you can tell us?

Mortar guy. 60, 81, and 120mm mortars.

See if this old pic from Yakima will show (I'm in foreground): From this thread.

I'd be damn willing to chip in for a knife of your choice John. How about a Busse or an Emerson?

(sorry guys, I'm still new to the knife world)

Dave,

That's awfully kind, but please save your money. There are plenty of more needy people to help. (FYI, one of the best "bang for buck" makers currently out there is allied with Busse- Swamp Rat Knife Works. If you wanted to get a knife for some other soldier, one of their small knives would probably be just the ticket, without breaking the bank.)

If I actually *need* something, I won't hesitate to ask, and I greatly appreciate the kind sentiments from all.

John

John,

You got it! 25 days! Holy Buckets!

I agree with your assesment of blade size...I have three in the shop that will fill the bill...but I didn't like them...I'will forge out a couple blades tomorrow...

My plan is to build a pair..and test one to destruction and finish the other...they will be nearly identical al the way through the process...

Dang...ok...25 days...this will be the fastest I ever turned out a blade for anybody...

Just so you know...I ditched the whole brass guard concept... working on it...

Sheath becomes really important....

Working on it!

Most of the guys say prybar is the NUMBER 1 job for a service knife...do you agree! If so I will make it a bit chunkier...if not I can go slim and trim cutting sumb*tch! Your call!

BTW~ I do not mark my blades....so this will be a sterile model...You ok with that?

Shane

John...it was good to have the chance to meet you at blade, I hope your time deployed passes fast and you can get back to your plan. Stay alert and remember good and bad times alike all quickly become history....and don't forget...LIGHTS!

I'll get your sticker out to you this week, John. Best of luck. Be safe.

Shane,

That's very kind of you. I probably don't deserve such good friends, but I'm glad to have them. Sturdy is good, though I don't want to use as prybar if I can help it. Using to snap bands around ammo crates is a real possibility, though.

:D Azis.

Let me know what I owe you for shipping, Dan.

Thanks, everybody.

John

John?

You never answered about taking Young Bert, the-not-right dog, with you.
