OT: PCs, Gaming, Gamers

Sorry Munk,

Have a go at Ascaron's "Sacred" - If you like Diablo this one is Diablo +P Its swords and sorcery, got luverly graphics, cool gear and effects and just about the biggest game world - 150+ hours and only 20% explored :)

Have a look at Sacred here: http://eng.sacred-game.com/index.php

I just asked you this question and you never answered!!!

My son and I need your expert advice. We've liked Doom, Hexen, Heretic and Heretic ll, and Diablo. Someone told us that Max Payne was the greatest game of all but we find it silly with the unneccesary slo mo violence. We like plots, mystic stuff, messes to get out of of, things to explore.
What should we be looking at for a game for our PC? We also have Xbox.

thanks
munk

oh ya, look at KotOR, knights of the old republic. I downloaded it to see if it was any good. The campain is extremely open ended. Tons of side quests for money or light/dark side points. Its starwars based off of dnd (3rd edition?) rules. KotOR 2 is due out in a few months I think, get the first until then. BTW this is a newer game, be sure you have the computer for it.

I played the Final Fantasy 7 PC version and loved it to bits. If you can get past the cutesey anime graphics and "savepoints", Final Fantasy 7 is deep and engrossing. Makes you laugh, makes you sad, and makes you cheer when you hit the "limit break" special attack that just abouts nuke the whole screen with flashing lights and explosions (I'd advise you to wear shades to play).

There are lots of little mini games hidden inside too. I had a blast with the chocobo (an oversized racing chicken) racing feature. You can even breed your own chocobos... to get the much sought after black and gold species. Took ages and the lengthy victory dance when I finally got a gold was much remembered...

Heres a site i found via google: http://www.ffwa.org/ff7/

Didnt like the others FF8, FF9, though.

has anyone played final fantasy?

I'll keep fallout in mind but I really want another sword and sorcery game. I've walked several characters through to the end of Diablo and need to find something else. I wish there were a Heretic 3

T1pani- Hey, you know how much I respect you- you're a doppleganger for my firearms selections-

I was just looking over the Diablo series- I played Diablo ll till killing Diablo- I never played the expansion pack. There is a Battle pack with everything for about 34 bucks shipped. What say you?

Also, this new one, Warcraft lll, the battle chest- with two games- this good?

Oh yeah! Speaking of, I thought of you a few days ago when one of my local shops unveiled a collection it had just bought from somebody. Original Marlin lever in 38-55, which I'd rate at 90%+ and I'm a fairly tough judge. 'Fraid they wanted more than I had on me, though...

I think both of those packs/chests are good buys. Either one of them has oodles of hours of gameplay for not much money. I agree Diablo can be irritating with the lack of saves. Of course, it's much much worse when you're playing a Hardcore character who can't be revived! I did that a few times. It's neat because you get awesome items that the non-hardcore guys never see, and you gain experience faster. I finally stopped, though. I found that following a major fight I'd be white-knuckled and drenched in sweat, having been so worried about losing my awesome HC dude. I don't think games are supposed to be that stressful. ;)

Some games I bought that I thought were great.

Shogun: Total War
Medieval: Total War
Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis
Hitman 2
Monkey Island (great for kids)
Jedi Academy
dito on Tom Clancy games
Allied Assault
Prince of Persia

I have heard that Morrowind is a good roleplaying style game and my niece loves the Harry Potter titles. Especially the Quidditch World Cup.

KOTOR is the best game I have recently played. Excellent story. Really like the RPG's. The Fallout and the Baldur's Gate series are great as well. Well worth playing. Another great game was Planescape:Torment. Currently playing Far Cry, beautiful graphics for a shooter. Looking forward to Doom 3 and Half-Life 2, as well as Stalker which sets you in the near future in Chernobyl after a second Nuclear event that has mutated and changed life in the area. The descriptions of this game are very appealing. Been playing since Wasteland in the 80's on my 8088 PC.

I have to agree with everyone on the Tom Clancy titles. Splinter Cell and Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow are video game crack. Not an RPG by any means, but very very cool. Also, the hit man games are my favorites of all time. If you like games from Diablo's historical time period and want to check out a stealth game for xbox, then i would suggest Thief: Deadly Shadows. Very cool, IMHO.

I am playing Sacred as well as we speak, its a good Diablo clone. Its been hard for me to get into games lately but I'm playing Sacred again pretty hardcore. I have the new unreal I think it is totally average, the magazines were hyping it like it was the greatest game ever made I was VERY disapointed....

I play two games: One is Il-2 Sturmovik and its expansion, Forgotten Battles. It's a flight simulator, which I haven't been playing much because I don't have the 3rd expansion, called Aces. Online play is the best part and I can't really do that without being up to date.

The other game is America's Army. It's a free download because the US Army made it as a recruiting tool. The latest version just came out and I have to say if you wan't a HIGHLY realistic FPS this is the way to go. And if you don't like it, no money lost. I've been playing that game since it came out July 4, 2002 and I'm still going strong.

You might try Neverwinter Nights. It is Diablo-looking with a whole lot more adventure/quest type stuff. I enjoyed it more than Baulder's Gate.

Medieval:Total War is an excellent strategy game that has lasted a long while on my hard drive. It has a very slow grand campaign and a 3d modeled battlefield battles.

Some of these sound interesting.....but I'm stickly a lonely player....don't like playing against other people....funny that way.

Also, haven't ever cared for the big strategy/city-building/world/sims/etc games.

Yes, I have strange tastes....perhaps no-one can relate? That's ok, though. Got plenty of other stuff to do....:D

Dan, it sounds like Diablo is your game...

Somewhere somebody mentioned Jedi Outcast too, which is also among the greats. That game gave me something I've wanted ever since I was a little kid--realistic control of a lightsaber.

Pen, my son and I just decided- we got Sacred, but agree we have no way of knowing what would be the best game for us.

THere was the neverwinter, and baldur's gate, and the Diablo pack, and Warcraft lll.....

The material outstretches our need and ability to pay for it. At 30 to 50 bucks a shot, I could be buying khuks and guns...real fantasy.

Diablo II, kings of caos, and just bought a PS2 and been trying to play SOSCOM II

if other are interested in playing diablo II online we can make a game

I got my daughter JedI Knight set. We have tried three different controller sticks with that game and none will give you the control needed. They all seem to oversteer/compensate and you can't zero in on targets. Maybe it's just the weoponry, I know those guys were always alot better with sabers then they were with their blasters.

My favorite PC games are 3D shooters. Among my all-time favorites are: Wolfenstein 3D, Corridor 7, Doom I and II (can’t wait for Doom III), Hexen, Heretic, Blood, Duke Nukem, Shadow Warrior, Quake, Unreal, All Dark Forces and Jedi Knight titles, and Alien vs. Predator (just finishing Primal Hunt expansion pack)… just to name a few.

Why do you look forward to Doom lll? I mean, how can they add to this, even in 3d, to make it interesting enough to shoot a few more demons?
