OT: Watches?

I've had G-Shocks for 20 years now - the watches never failed me - the resin has literally fallen apart over time through hard use.

I have worn them on and off since about 1990 as well.

The most accurate watch I have ever owned was a Luminox, without question.

I had a short stint (about 4 months) where my wife was tired of my nasty g-shock (another resin case falling apart!) and got me a Timex Ironman...

I wore Timex Iron Man watches throughout the 80s, they were pretty tough watches. Plus, well, they have a cool name. :D

They can't beat a G-Shock though!

My next one will be a G-Shock solar atomic.

You won't be disappointed. The Atomic Timekeeping feature, to me, is just a pain in the ass and I just set mine manually. Othewise, it is awesome and they also make the toughest phone I have had to date.

Love my G shocks!

But love my Rollies more :D

Here are my watches:

This made me wonder a bit - is there a good watch that can be taken in the woods below the 200$ mark other than G-Shock

Right now I am wearing a Timex Expedition, analog dial, date, plastic case, nylon band, with a Suunto Clipper compass attached. That's my EDC. For dress i have a more upscale Expedition, with polished steel and a leather band.

I've got a G-shock. The Atomic Timekeeping is just an awesome feature. You don't have to do anything. I have a G-shock that I wear for work, I put it away last spring and it's just sat on my computer desk and I haven't touched it for 7 months. Picked it up the other day and it was right on the second for time. Didn't have to do anything. Don't know how much easier it can get.

Tough too. Mine's been covered in concrete, mud, sheetrock dust and cellulose insulation. Just keeps working.

i'm pretty sure watches have been brought up on here before but i've been in the market for an every day/outdoors watch for a while now. Finally decided to quit puttin it off and ordered a casio g-shock mudman. The reviews i've read are overwhelmingly positive so i'm hoping i made the right call. I haven't worn a watch in 10 years. Plus i've got small wrists so i hope its not too ridiculous looking:d

what are you guys currently wearing? Anyone else with a mudman?
i like the invicta grand diver, tough watch!

I have the Citizen Skyhawk AT. The Eco-drive feature is awesome. I love the watch. I want the Titanium version next.

Right now I just wear my Tag Heuer. I used to wear a Vostok Amphibia while camping/ doing general outside chores, but I gave it to a friend recently. Tough, automatic watches. I gotta pick another up soon

I'm old school, so I tend to go with watches with hands. G-Shocks are great watches and maybe the best value for the price. I wear my Marathon Search and Rescue watch as my every day watch and its a superior automatic if not way overpriced. Mine was issued so I got it free but would never buy one for what they sell for. I wore the Citizen Aqualand diver for over ten years and during two tours in Iraq. It is by far my favorite watch. The Rolex is for making officers think senior enlisted NCOs make too much money.

I really like my invicta pro-diver. This is my second one after I left the first one sitting on my bumper when i left work. I've mixed concrete by hand with this thing on, and it still looses less than a minute after two months, not bad at all for a low cost automatic. This one is the old one I lost, the new one is a coin edge bezel.

Too funny.

Watches are pretty much *exactly* parallel to knives, though it would be a lot harder to fend off the terrorist hoardes with a watch...though you would know exactly what time it was.

I own watches built to handle situations far more extreme than my cubicle will likely see and I like it that way heh.

My latest is a Suunto, if you're into the whole black watch thing, they are just cool.

Now I need a picture of my acid cloud resistant, micro crowbar ultra tactical monster folder tucked into the wristband of my Suunto 'survival' watch.

Not sure if links are allowed, but I have no affiliation other than having bought too many from these guys...mod, just delete the link if it's a problem.

Entry level priced watch porn...I can't afford the 'big boys'.

Knife porn is a loose substitute for my watch porn, stop talking about watches.

And you can go into the woods with a $6 pink Timex and a $10 restaurant kitchen knife ;-). They may just outlast you.

I like watches a lot. I own a few divers and chronographs as well as a couple Gshocks. I have bought and sold a lot of watches on Watchuseek.

Smcclown: The Mudman is a great all around watch. I have taken mine hiking and swimming. The buttons are harder than most Gs to push. You can make them easier by taking the rubber/plastic bezel off and putting it in boiling water for a few minutes. It softens them up nicely. You can also use the Nato or Zulu straps on a G. You will need the adapters to use them. I think they sell them at countycomm.com.

Styx or anyone interested: If you are looking for a nice automatic that you can use outdoors look at Seikos line of auto divers. The most popular are the 007(nothing to do with the movies), 009, orange and black monsters. You can find them under $200 new or from $100-200 used. Most of the divers are ISO rated to 200m. I dont remember what specific ISO number but it states that the watch has to perform to 125% of it rating for a specific amount of time. They are good to go in the water. Seiko makes great products. Most people see Seiko in the US as just a cheap watch. Seiko makes watches as good as or better than most Swiss watches although the Swiss fans will never admit it. With any auto you need to be careful with it. Any real hard knocks can damage it. Regular bumps and scrapes will not hurt it. I wear my autos to do everything from hiking and swimming in rivers and lakes to shooting ARs and various handguns.

If you do not want an auto, Seiko makes quartz and Kinetic divers. Kinetic is different from automatic. Autos use a rotor turning to wind a spring which powers the watch. Kinetic used a rotor to charge a cap. to power a quartz watch.

If you want more info on watches or where to get new or used ones, PM me.

well, if you are looking for a tough watch and just like it to tell time (me)
AND you wouldn't mind if it defected 9mm bullets.... :)

Thanks for the info! Especially about the Zulu and Nato bands. I like the idea of having one strap so it doesn't fall of my wrist if one of the pins go. BTW, do you know which size band the Mudman will accept? Plus I can't seem to find the adapters on County Comm. I can't wait for my new watch to get here. I should have sprung for two-day shipping :D

I often wear a Marathon GSAR like some others here. Its my weekend watch and pulls woods duty as well as everything from flying to bumming around town. I bought it used, so didn't pay full price. As Swiss automatics go though they are not expensive and well worth the investment.

Thx man, that helps a lot. most of my watches either die in a week or they live for years and someone snatches them somehow. Now I know where to look, and I'll ask more questions if needed

Bulova Marine Star is what I've been rockin' mostly
I have to have a guard over the crown; I've ruined some very nice watches by knocking the crown off
I probably should get a GShock as rough as a I can be
