Folks...any *reliable* firearm that you are willing to train with and learn to use is better than bare hands, edged weapons, rocks, sticks or ball-peen hammers.

Better than Ball Pean hammers? Say it ain't so.

That reminds me. I have a Berretta .25 I need to get working again. I have a great uncle, who shall remain nameless, who buried his brothers PPK in the holster and Berretta .25. Both were bringbacks from Germany WWII. They were in the ground 4 years. Don't know why.

Needless to say, I have them now. I need to get 'em running.

Yes it works- all hail Ballistol!

Firing pin return spring had light rust & was frozen- tapped out pin holding pin & spring, sanded pin & slide cavity. Spring works, but will need replacement- can get one from a ballpoint pen, it looks like. Finer springs like that were more affected than the thick coil springs.

Thanks everybody for input. I put 10 hrs. labor into it but have a new toy. Frame had a few dings from bouncing off concrete, but I filled these with JB spotweld, sanded, and since it won't take bluing, got black grill paint. Looks passable.

This won't be a carry- looked for a holster and found my AMT .380's holster fit. Which raises the question, why carry the Beretta .25 when you have a similar size more powerful .380?

At least it will make a great noisemaker on the 4th... and no, I am not one of those absolute butt-heads that fires guns randomly in the air on holidays. (or on Saddams birthday ) People are killed every Jan. 1 & 4th of July by such irresponsible idiots. Always know & see your backstop and through it.

Glad to hear everything turned out okay.

Grill paint is actually a very serviceable gun finish. I've used it a number of times in the past. If you tire of it, consider this stuff:

The instructions on the can don't mention this, but make sure the missus is gone before you bake it.
