OT: What I Did Last Night Instead of Khuk Maintenance

Just thought I'd post an update-- I think the dome is pretty much dry now. On advice from a friend who cleans carpets for a living, we pulled the damp carpet up and removed the pad. Paddding is cheap, and he has all the tools to restretch the carpet. We also removed baseboards and poked some ventilation holes in the sheetrock to avoid mold growth; I guess toxic mold is a big issue nowadays. Anyway, had good weather on Friday and Saturday, so kept the dome wide open with about eight or nine big fans going. I also kept the woodstove roaring all weekend. Had the interior temp up above 90 degrees a few times. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but right now it looks like things are going to be ok. I also picked up some new braided steel hoses for the washer. The water to the washing machine will definitely be getting shut off when we are gone from now on.

I've lived in Wyoming previously. That's the first thing the landlord cautioned me about- the hoses to the washer left on when you're gone for a few days.

I don't even trust the metal ones.

Sad thing is, my wife and I used to manage apartments, and I worked as a cleaning crew supervisor for years, so I've seen what can happen when washing machine hoses break. I just never thought about checking the hoses on my own washer. Oh well, still pretty new to dome ownership--just under two years. I still learn something every day. As bad as the whole thing sucked, it could have been a lot worse.
