so my dumb ass just cut the tip of my right thumb REALLY bad with a spyderco bug that closed on me. It was my fault by the way...cut about halfway across my tip and very deep...close to the bone. OUCH!!!! Anyways...the worst part...i won't be able to open any of my knives for most likely a few weeks now with my right thumb!!! I can do the left hand thing, but i am terrible at it! Guess I will be getting some left handed practice. Has that happened way anyone?? What a bummer!

a few pics below.

Sorry to hear that, on the other hand (no pun intended), when is your left hand Military coming in? :D

Sorry to hear it, but it does happen.

Another reason to train with both hands on all things pertaining to weapons, knives or better yet "tools".

One never knows.

Hope ya heal fast.

funny thing is the smallest knife I own..and the bug is extremely small...gave me the worst cut i have had to date...go figure.

Sorry to hear but I still think pictures are required. :) Hope you heal quick bro.

lol...you know, as I was putting on the bandaid I was thinking i should get a pic because I know someone on the board will want it...maybe when I change it out I will try and get one.

something similar happened to me years ago but not with a knife.i cut my right thumb's tip with a rotative ham slicer (the big electric stuff you can see in a butcher's) i lost 0,5cm of my right thumb. i didn't feel the cut, but as soon as my thumb touched something i had like an electric shock in my whole arm up to the shoulder. couldn't do anything with my right hand for month iirc.

a severe cut at the thumb is a real pain as you can't do much with your hand without using it ... hope it heals fast !

For the times your thumb is out of commission, it's always nice to have at least one flipper.

so it is alot worse than it actually looks in this pic...the blood line at my nail is how far the blade went in on the top side of the cut. It went in further along the top. It is very deep but I don't want to flip up the flap as it is held down pretty good....ouch.

Just use an ambidextrous folder for awhile. A straight knife might work.

I had to cut myself on purpose. A few months ago I was out fishing by myself. I had a very sharp hook being held in one of the eyelets of the rod and it was way to tight, as a matter of fact the tip of the rod was bent so I knew it was wrong. (duh). I took the hook out of the eyelet with one hand and it slipped and shot forward into my other hand. To be exact, into the finger tip of my middle finger on my left hand. Well it went to the bone. I had to get that thing out of my finger so I got the sharpest knife out of the box and very slowly and carefully cut down into my finger so I could get the hook out. It took me about an hour to slowly cut down into my finger. As soon as I could I then had to clean that mess out and butterfly it up. Yes I know it needed stitches and I was dumb as a board but I was out of work, didn't have any dough, had been hit by 3 hurricanes in a couple of years -- well the resources just were not there for an extra doctors appointment. A few months after that I did go to the doctor for a 1 yr check up and showed him the finger and the story, and really caught hell from him. He said i could have cut a tendon and really done some damage to my finger. So if ya cut yourself really bad it is probably best not to play surgeon like I did and go to the doctor. Oh yea and don't keep so much tension on your fishing line. Jeez that hurt.

ouch..looks like you filleted that puppy pretty good. Take care of it and I hope you heal up quick. Thanks for the pic....sort of... :)

M you may want to get that checked out by a doc. Hopefully things are alright.

The risk is you cut through the blood vessels, leaving the tip of your finger, the flapping part, lacking blood. If it doesn't have a good blood supply it won't heal correctly. If it starts turning any color aside from normal, like turning white, I would take it in.

DAMMT!!! I bumped my thumb pretty good and the pain and blood shot out. This one looks pretty bad!

*****warning***** Blood LOOK AWAY IF YOU DO NO WANT TO SEE
