OUCH! my thumb! *Warning - a little blood*..now ALOT of blood** UPDATED PICS!

Do you REALLY want to listen to someone who's gonna say "Dude, just seal it up with some superglue and it'll be fine"?

When I was little I accidently gouged a chunk of my left thumb out with some scissors. Still doesnt look right haha. Mayb its time to rotate in a kershaw flipper or something. At least you can open it with that hand. You might have to use your left hand to disengage the safety or something.

The worst bleeder I had was when I dropped a tanto point folder on my shin. It poked me a tiny little hole just beside the bone into a vein or artery....not sure, but the blood was pissing out about 2 feet like a fountain in a steady stream....I was wearing shorts and it was in the house. Didn't take long to mske a mess that looked like someone got murdered...went to the kitchen for paper towels, then the bathtub. Took a long time to stop the bleeding. I'd get it stopped, but a bandaid on, and as soon as I stood up it would start pissing out again.

happened to me before, you need stitches, when i was a young knifenut(maby 6 years old) i found a pack of razor blades, oh boy were they fun, untill i had a half inch cut in my index finger that required several stitches. unfortunatly i never got those stitches because i didnt want to tell my mom or dad i was playing with razor blades lol. I have a scar to this day.

I cut the tip of my left "birdie" finger nearly off when I was about 14 slicing up an apple, looked some what similar to your slice, I went to urgent care and I think I ended up with 8 stitches.

I've found if I don't get stitches within 6ish hours it's maybe not such a good idea to stitch it up.
Something about the 6 hour mark with me... not sure why.
It seems that every time I've been stitched after 6 hours have passed I have more issues than if I just would have let it heal normally.

me - a guy who has had a bunch of stitches

I cut my extensor tendon with a centofante 3 after closing it right on top of my finger, sliced right through the tendon and stopped at the bone. To test if you cut a tendon (which I realllllllllllllly doubt you did) extend and retract your fingers, if you hear or feel a click, its cut. Another way is to hold the tip under tension with the other finger and try to push up.

Honestly, I don't think you need stitches, but I'm not a doctor so maybe you should get it checked out.

You guys really think I need stitches? This has never happened so I don't really know.

well, if you want it to heal properly, you may want to consider a visit to the er.

but at least you had time and the presence of mind to take pics and post them.;)

I'm no doctor, of course, but I've had first-aid training--& that cut looks nasty. You said there's a flap, I'm presuming you cut under the nail, and that blood is a bright red..which
in my book is a good warning sign. I'd get stitches. I sliced my right index finger open, much like that, & right down to the bone.. I didn't get stitches. My finger is constantly icey cold & numb. You'd better see a doc--if that gets infected..it'll be much worse. Hope it turns out alright for you.

OH man it bit you good! stitches or its time to heat up the iron...heal fast bud and get it checked out before it gets worse.

update: i did not go to the dr. although after all your comments I feel like I should have. I really doesn't hurt anymore and i have had it bandaged tightly down since it happened. I snapped a pic this morning when I put on a new bandage and again a few min ago when i changed it again...i just hope that portion of skin doesn't die off. I still have feeling in it so thats good right??
