I'm kicking this back to the top because he may have popped up again. Is anyone aware of a Randy Herring trading on the forums? He may be using a different snailmail address but still in Arizona....

Please note UglyJim, Jim Herring, is NOT the culprit -- it's a RANDY or RANDALL Herring we're looking for.
 
I have been sitting around FEELING guilty because I promised piet that some "former associates" were going to send a nice check to get help him get some Boy scout knives. I made the first donation of $45 bucks, and found out a few months later that Piet received NOTHING, not even my money. my EX-BUDDIES "forgot" [They seem to have forgotten about my 45 bucks too]

Then I read this and my blood boils. the ONLY way I have done business with another formite is via E-mail, cyber-shake and I immediately put my trade item in the mail. have I been burned? I do NOT know yet. There are a few "outstanding things" I was told to expect to receive, but so far???????

But I just cannot conduct a trade with a formite via a CONTRACT, If a formite tells me he is sending me something, I expect it send, and If I say that I am SENDING something, I send it ASAP. No paperwork, no contract, just MY word and the BF Formite's word. That HAS GOT to be SOLID, and the ONLY way for me to do business.

AM I GONNA get it stuck up my butt? I hope not. Am I too trusting? I think not. But if people are going to burm a man as compassionate as piet, SOMETHING is WRONG.

We all need to help get rid of these CROOKS!!!!.........wolf:(
 
A very interesting thread. Honor is a word that is rarely used in this day and age. Most folks on this Forum seem to posses said noble quality. IMHO I would think that getting the UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE involved in something of this nature is NOT a good idea. These things ( glow rings) are apparently not suppose to be imported. It only takes one "PC" postal inspector to raise hell.
I think it's pretty stupid, they may not!

Sorry to hear you got scammed on the money for the Scout Knives. If you remember, there was a time when I put together some knives for Piet's scouts (der Bevers), and we were in contact a few times about it. It sounds as if someone took that idea and abused it, taking your money with it. That just plain sucks and pisses me off.
I have a good mind to give someone who plays those little games a tast of what properly trained recon personel can do. Well.....I'd sure as hell like to but I have security clearances to maintain. It's a pleasant thought anyhow. (For me anyways, I'll leave it at that.)
Next time you want to put some stuff together for Piet, let me know and I'll be in it with you.

I did NOT get scammed. These guys were brother cops. they just got lazy, and forgot all about doing what was promised me. i called and got my money back today. But the whole idea was to help out a boy scout troop and at 15 bucks a knife, the "guys" could have gotten great PR mileage out of it.

it all boils down to following thru. If you trade with a formite, stay in touch, E-mail each other when whatever arrives, E-mail each if you are both happy, and if not, get a phone number and talk about it.

Honesty is so very important on BF. Without it, you do not belong.

I just got jipped by the same guy! He said his name was Randy Herring. I did a add for my greco companion on knifeforums and he responded for a trade. He seemed like a very reasonably guy. Because it was my first trade and he may not trust me, as my handle name on knifeforums and bladeforums isn't that well known I said i'd send him the knife and once it gets their he can then send his knives to me. Other than that fact, I was also willing to trade my greco companion for a buck mentor, a LED light, and a case xx trapper. I figured I didn't use the knife much anyways so a trapper and a buck might be better. Then soon after I sent it (a month and a half ago) he said his state had been hit by a tornado, which the state I sent it to did. During the e-mails he sent me he did seem sincere telling me that he'd throw in other knives, and that he wants to "even things out" for me. Well its been around 2 months now! he said his neighborhood had no power yet left me his telephone number:rolleyes: I am wondering if their is anything that I can do? I am going to call him this week if that really is his phone number.
Has anyone heard of him since this post?
 
I didn't know these posts existed. Bagheera contacted me about the glowrings, I had never heard of him or glowrings. After some research, I felt like he was a straight up guy and that since he had my name and address maybe something else had happened I didn't know about it. I paid him within two days of his notifying me that he felt I owed him payment. I am sure he remembers this and I wish he would have updated this. I never recieved any glowrings, but I did find that a guy in my condo that had the same last name as me had talked to Piet. I have no clue what happened, but I paid for these anyway and thought this was cleared up over a year ago. I wish Bagheera would comment on this.

Adam is right, I did get really bad late shipping to him and I owe him and apology. He cut off contact with me email wise. I knew I would have some problems in the email department because of some flood damage at my place, and gave him my phone number, shouldn't have been a problem getting in touch with me. I didn't know what he wanted me to do, so I sent the knives and some chem sticks. He hasn't updated to confirm this, but I have a USPS confirmation number confirming this. I would be happy to send his knife back and he can keep the ones I sent. I will do it on his other post so it will be in public. A little research would show I have done many, many trades and have a lot of good feed back. I wasn't even aware this stuff was on here about me. I am stunned.
 
I have no idea why the link I posted above no longer works. I can't find the thread with a search either but I remember it; it was a link to a thread where Bagheera posted he had been paid. Apparently there are at least two people named Herring who are getting confused with each other.... I'm confused, anyway, but I'm looking forward to clearing this up.
 
Perhaps i'm being glib here (as often) But did anyone ever think that 'R Herring' was short for RED Herring?

I haven't been able to go on the Internet for the past week and a half since I was in San Diego for business followed by a short 5 day vacation.

I don't know where the last post I put in this thread has gone but I received an email from Cougar Allan and Randy Herring (thebigcozy@yahoo.com) asking me to confirm/repost the somehow disappeared last post.

I did some checking and can't find the emails I send in 2001 to Randy Herring anymore but the story in short was that we send 4 Glowrings May 3 2001 ! to Randy Herring, 1601 Hogan 911, Conway AR 72032 and although he confirmed the arrival he never send us payment until after my post in the GBU and several (more then) emails and calling to the US months later I was approached by Randy Herring who told me he was NOT the Randy Herring that we send the Glowrings to but he felt bad that his name was used and he send us the $40 that we thought to have lost in the deal gone bad.

This is what he wrote:

"The next day after my first contact with you, I sent you the money
and told you I suspected it might have been my son. Given the complexity of the deal, I really doubt he did it, and I have yet to see any of them in all this time. I believe that it was indeed Curtis Herring, who lives at condo complex who may have done this, or
to be more accurate someone that knows him. He is an old man who is not related to me, but I help out. I think it may have been his grandson, who I introduced to bladeforums.com. I know that you got in touch with him. Either way, it doesn't matter, I took care of
the matter. "

Well THIS Randy Herring did pay us even though he said he hasn't received the Glowrings but felt bad we'd been misled.

I know I thanked him when he send us the $40, October 31 2001 and wrote this in this thread but it seemed to have disappeared.

I really hope that Bigcozy aka Randy Herring (the "good" one) gets a chance to prove that he didn't mess up the knife deal if he can prove it give him a chance, to me (us) he sounded really honest when he send us the $40 payment for something he probably never received but the other "guy" using his name did.

Hope this is clear enough, I'm having a real jet lag at the moment and feel terrible.
