Our new magazine ad...

I tried to send you a pm but I am not allowed to do that. I hope I don't come off like a troll and I mean no disrespect at all, but I am not crazy about the design of the ad.

If it is going to be in a knife magazine perhaps then more of the knife in action. For example, a darker pic with the ESEE Junglas and the ESEE Fire Kit sparking up some timber to create a fire in the jungle. Have the man's hands holding the two pieces and show how they work in a survival situation. Then have the logo's and info around.

I think the photo chop, size and depth perception is thrown off with the chopper in the background and this massive knife in the front. Clearly you want to show the knife is huge and powerful, but it looks odd next to the chopper.

Again, I mean no disrespect at all infact just the opposite, I am hoping to be helpful. My wife is a graphic desinger and I have learned all about this stuff.

Here's hoping I don't get banned now. :)

Dude, remember what forum you're on. We don't ban people for voicing their opinion. In fact, we want feedback. Doesn't mean we're gonna change the ad but your opinion is always welcome here. ;)

You beat me to it i was going to tell him you would rather have real feedback then just blind followers. And i agree with him i dunno the add seems kind of 80's to me. Kind of makes me think of MASH or Rambo.

Cool, thanks. As silly as it sounds I was a bit nervous. Love this forum and didn't want to come across wrong.

I like it, I like it alot.

As stated earlier, maybe less water and a bit more jungle (green).

but very nice nonetheless.

I love the ad: it is simple, clean, and NOT hyped!

I like it...

*Sidenote* For me, I would have liked to see more green less water in the background. My .02cents.

I bet the water/sky portion is for clarity of the text. Also, like said above, action would be cool in the ad. But that is what all of the other companies do(action, hype, etc.)

I like the ad I think it looks awesome.
I doubt it will be the only ad and who knows maybe the next will be in the jungle? That would be cool too.
What I like most is how the warranty is stated, not some wimpy small print that needs a magnifying glass to read! That says a lot! It says that I dont need a mgnifying glass, a special phone number, or some special circumstance to make a claim. Using my knives daily I doubt I would need a warranty but its cool that its there!

I figured as much..plus it also appeals to the water going outdoorsman/woman too.

How about a contest within the ESEE forum to design the next mag ad, winning ad gets a knife...etc.

HaHa! Nice call Doc. There needs to be a sub-forum called contests for how many are put on here!

How about some of you experts put your photo and ad skills to good use and post an alternative. I'd like to see some of this latent talent out there put to good use. I think what is good about that ad is that the photo is a nice, sharp one without too much distraction and perfect blank space that allows for writing and ad work.

(I'm actually only being half smart-ass. I really would like to see what people can come up with.)

Unless Jeff or Mike has a problem with it. Create a sticky. Create a contest. I don't know. Ads (and commercials) are like sports teams--easy to criticize but deceptively hard to build a good one.

EDIT: Yikes, you guys beat me to the contest while I was typing this!

I was actually going to talk to my wife and do a mock-up and email it to them. I have a great visual in my mind just need her skills to put it together. :D

looks great, I'm just glad it doesn't say Formerly Rat Cutlery Company, I've had enough of that in the mags, I really like the warranty at the bottom, no BS!!!!!!!!

But I'm an 80s kinda guy!

You just wouldn't believe at some of the questions we get. Makes you just want to say "Never buy a knife!"

A badass picture would be a subdued black and white/grayscale blackhawk/jungle pic with the Junglas and text in the foreground
