Sweet misery loves company.Just when I thought I could stop buying knives…I stumble across this thread. Now I have something to hunt for again, and I really enjoy South African knives.
Thanks BoB…and THANKS BOB!! What a great thread! Gonna have to watch this one.![]()
Thanks. I like the how the spring wraps around. The curves on Ettricks appeal to me. Willem makes a good one. Interesting pattern with some great threads on the forum.Gorgeous spalted wood, unc, a real keeper.
And such a beauty it is Pete. Thanks for bringing it out.An artist’s work. What a cutler. View attachment 2230101View attachment 2230102View attachment 2230103View attachment 2230104View attachment 2230105
Thanks Bob, the lanny is quite comfy but has a bit harder pull than I expected. The lamb is much easier in that regard, this was the redo that Willem did for me after someone here pointed out there may be cracks in the bone on the original. It was a bit of a mix up on the original anyway as I requested the hounds tooth shield (which I have on this one) and the long vine file work on the spring. The original one he did the diamond shield and standard vine pattern. I think it was more of a miscommunication through the guy I was ordering through in the US than it was Willem. The only thing that didn’t get done that I expected was there was no fluted bolsters on the one I have now. Not a big deal.I've always admired your blue lamb. Your Lanny looks like it would be very comfortable in your hand.
Thanks.
I have learned from Willem the lines in his bone are not really cracks. I was concerned about one on mine when he reassured me.
Fortunately, I have always asked for a pull of about 6 and it works out well.
He's having a miserable time with power outages...the completion of my lamb is caught up in it.
I think you’re right Bob. I saw the one he originally made me is still for sale and even though it’s blue I wouldn’t mind having two in my collection especially that were custom made for me. I think I just may pull the trigger on that this morning. Thanks Michael.

I have seen that one and have been tempted , but it's cheaper to go direct and get what you want...just takes longer.I think you’re right Bob. Great ideas...I am thinking of a coffin lamb. One design of his I’m thinking would be something in a bright green or something maybe similar to colors on a poison dart frog with the frog shield. That would be kind of fun and cool. I also like the grim reaper shield for a coffin jack haha. Perfection.
I’ve seen the blue dyed Karelian birch (kb 2312) somewhere…For those new to ordering from Willem, after you tell him the type of material you want, he will send a picture of what he could find. Two examples: just sent.
I've claimed the maple and dyed maple above it.

Michael, another beauty for your fine collection. ( you saved me $$$$)I got the original lamb Willem made for me. It’s almost a twin but you can see it has the fluted bolster, short vine file work (weird that it gets thicker near the bolster) and a diamond. Can never have too many lambs lol.
