The title says it all. I will miss the stimulating converstations we always have here and if anybody has technical questions that our resident experts cant answer, I hope they can wait till I return. :)
Going to the Blade Show West representing the Buck Collectors Club! :D
Then leaving on a bow elk hunt, or just a hike. Only time will tell.

So it's a bow/elk hunt if you get something and just a hike if you don't. Cool concept. :D:D

good luck on your hunt!!:thumbup:

Have a great time at BSW...... Good luck on your Elk hike. We have been bow huntin here in Oregon for a couple weeks now and located a herd twice that has 2 nice 5 pts and a few smaller bulls, just can't get the timing right to get in close enough... But I guess thats part of the fun of archery hunting LOL

Pic's Joe,

Bring back many pic's from both adventures....and post them please....;).

...But if you don't...here's some old family recipes that may come in handy...

Be sure to dress them with a sharp Buck blade... ;)

Crunchy Baked Squirrel

2 dressed squirrels cut into bite-size pieces
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1 cup crushed cornflake crumbs
1 tsp salt
1/8 tsp freshly-ground black pepper
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp paprika
Butter as needed

Method :
Soak the squirrel in milk for 30 minutes.
Put cornflake crumbs, salt, garlic powder and pepper in a bag. Shake squirrel pieces one at a time to coat, then remove and place in a shallow baking dish. Don't crowd the pieces in the pan.
Sprinkle with paprika and dot with butter. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until tender.
This recipe yields 2 to 4 servings.

Squirrel Stew

Ingredients:
1 squirrel, quartered
1 cup diced onion
2 large tomatoes (from your garden) or 1 can of tomatoes
Assorted fresh ,or canned veggies

Preparation:
Sprinkle seasoned salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper (optional) liberally on the meat. Pour some cooking oil into a large pot (dutch oven). Sauté the meat with the onions until well browned. Drain the excess oil, add about 2 cups water, and bring to a boil. Cut up the tomatoes and add. If you use canned tomatoes add them now. Turn down the heat, and let slow cook for at least an hour. Important: older squirrels may require cooking longer than an hour. Check periodically for tenderness. If you don't you will have a hard time chewing the meat. After the meat is tender, add the veggies, carrots, potatoes, banana pepper, what ever you like. Cook until the veggies are done. An option you can use is, cook up your favorite pasta and serve over the pasta. (eliminate the potatoes). That's it, nice and simple ~ Good eating!

Mesquite Squirrels

squirrels, how many depend upon how many you are feeding, leave whole
1 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
12 oz. beer

Season squirrel(s) with salt and pepper to taste.
Place in a large bowl and cover with beer. Cover and refrigerate for at least an hour.
Grill over mesquite wood until done. Or use mesquite wood chips on a charcoal fire.
Serve and Enjoy!

but for you squieel eatting lovers :

one squirrel well done!

Well I got back from my hike.........
No shortage of bulls, just a shortage of good hunters in the field. (ME!) I'll figure them out one of these days. We had lots of bulls bugleing around us each day but could not get them to come on in. I was within about 100 yards of bulls on numerous occassions but could not close the distance.
I did have a nice 5x5 at 30 yards but I was not ready to make a shot when he popped into view. Rats!
We still had a blast.
The show was fun too. I am hoping it will grow each year and more members will be able to make the trip. Those of us that did attend had the usual fun sharing stories and info on knives.
I can share pictures of the hunt but it would be easier if you just found any photo of a bunch of pine trees....since that is basically all I saw. :D

It sounds like you saw more than just trees.... I'd consider seeing a 5x5 at 30 yards pretty exciting!

for me seeing any thing at 30 yards is exciteing!!
normanly i have to go to the petting zoo with the grand kids to get that close to nature...
