Outdoor bag to haul RAT gear ?

I have had this as my school backpack since 2005, but it goes on all my hikes too. It's been awesome!

Its a Kelty Apollo. Unfortunately discontinued but I'm sure theres something similar now. I Highly recommend Kelty's stuff. I have a backpack, sleeping bag, and tent of theirs and all are awesome! I came close to buying one of these for $100 bucks this summer:Kelty Redwing

Camelback MULE-holds my water needs and gear I need for day hikes. Anything longer-Ford Ranger

I use a NorthFace HotShot for those day hike situations, but I'm going to have a custom bike messenger bag made soon.
For any of you out there that want something a little more stylin', made to your specs, with original art if you like, waterproof, and HANDMADE IN AMERICA check out local Columbus, Ohio shop Seagull Bags. Yeah, they're hipsters, but you gotta love the work ethic...

You could very easily get them to make you one with a RAT knife logo or picture on it.... it would rule.

Well, let's see. Gotta bunch of packs. But it seems the topic is for shorter excursions. For that I have an Eagle MOLLE Becker and a Maxpedition Lunada. Lately the Lunada is the go-to pack. I can fit the basics. Being a gearslinger, I can swing it around to the front of my body without taking it off.

I know people love their gearslingers, but I wouldn't go any bigger. By the time I have it loaded, it's more than enough hanging off one shoulder. Other than that, it's been a fine pack. I can configure it a few different ways depending on my circumstance.

Here it is with some accessories added. RC3 gets paracorded to the shoulder strap.

GunnerP I really like that Condor II!! I'm torn between that one and the Falcon. I like the blue Falcon but the Condor is a little bigger. I think I need to go get one of those..now just to pick a color.

Depends on who in my family is going with me, and what season.

In warm weather on relatively short/easy hikes (less than 5 miles) I might have a Deuter AC Lite 20 liter (maybe about 1200 cubes?). It has Deuter's trampoline suspension system and a pretty decent waist belt for a small pack. For hot weather its great as there is alot of air circulation between the pack and my back. It handles 15 lbs with no problem. For the same types of hikes in the Winter, I might take a Gregory ISO or one of my Moutainsmith Approach II's. These have a decent internal suspension and enough volume to carry extra gear.

For hunting, I have a pair of Badlands 2200's.

Couple of thoughts. I usually hike in some form of cargo pants, be it woolrich, north face, BDU bottoms, Worldwide sportsmen, etc etc etc. This time of year I hike with a zipup jacket, which has three pockets. I don't use a small pack, I trap what I can to my belt and stuff the rest. That said, my next step up is a Mountainsmith Maverick, which I much adore. I HIGHLY recommend Eberlestock though, made right here in Boise Idaho. Glen is a bangup dude.

I use a Pygmy falcon II in summer and a Condor II in Fall and Winter (need to fit more gear in then). I just posted pictures of both set ups in another thread:http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=690937 in post 2.

I'm seriously looking at a Kifaru XRay at the moment though. In fact I'm in CO for a month so I'm planning on driving over and taking a look at Kifaru in person.

the rush packs by 5.1.1 tactical seem decent if the maxpeditions are too expensive

but the maxpeditions do look of a higher quality

Just got a maxped Jumbo for carrying around. Works nicely as a daybag. I've got some random camelbak I use for longer day hikes, a Lowe Pro camera bag that has some nice loops for knives, and an old LLBean (ducks for cover) internal frame pack for multi-day events.

I really like my Jumbo. I asked for a M-1 and a Rollypoly for Christmas to attach to it plus I have the Janus pouch that I can add. I just need to get my stuff together and pack it "right" instead of using the stuff it method, hehe :)

what color is your Max stuff ?

It's the trail to Silver Lake. Trailhead's at Silver Lake Flat Reservoir up American Fork Canyon.

One of my favorite hikes.

Sounds like I'll need to check it out. BTW If you ever want to talk knives, machetes, camp cooking or go shooting/hiking let me know. I'm in your neck of the woods. Email in my signature. Didn't know that Badlands packs are up in Salt Lake City. Thats pretty sweet! I'm up there every few weeks getting leather supplies. Might have to make a detour over their way.
