Outdoor Edge folder troubles

Hello,
I lost my Outdoor Edge Pocket-Lite G10 folders pivot screw while I made some woodwork. I was trying to find it for couple days, but without any result. No problem, I ask the local distributor for spare parts. But the local distributor had no screw for my folder, he sent me one, but it do not fits. I visited some hardware shops, but the screw is not metric, it was probably made based on some US standards, nobody had this size.
I write an email to the producer (moreinfo(at)outdooredge.com) twice, without answer. No problem, I will contact other European distributors. I sent over 15 emails and I received 3, but nobody had spare parts for my favorite folder.
Yes, I have the solution: I need to ask a knife maker, to make a new pivot for my folder. But this situation is horrible. Try to imagine this situation with any other product (car, motorbike, dishwasher, anything else)!
I was totally glad with this folder, because it was worth his price, and works nice. But now after this experience I can not say the same. Sorry Mr. Outdoor Edge, this was my last folder from your brand.

Outdoor Edge doesn't actually make knives, they contract them from Taiwan, so it's not surprising that they do not have parts lying around.

How long has it been since you emailed them? Have you given them a fair amount of time to respond?

Most companies don't respond well to email. Can you get them on the phone? Snailmail is more likely to be successful than email, too.

My knife was made in China too. The first email was sent on Friday, 30 Jan 2009 and the second on Feb 27th. Is it enought time to respond? I think yes.
So: :thumbdn:

If you email me your name, address and phone number, I will try to contact Outdoor Edge by phone and see if I can get them to mail you the part you need. You can email me through the the forum contact section of my profile. Please also provide me with the date that you purchased the knife.

Here, here!. Bravo Keith, nice assist for rustyknife!

Just wanted to update this thread. I contacted Outdoor Edge today and Patrick, the manager, said that he will send rustyknife a new knife tomorrow. He says that his company has had its computers hacked in the past so they have a very strong filter on their email. He said that he has never seen an email from rustyknife and doesn't recall getting a letter.

Anyway, it looks like they are going to go above and beyond to help out a customer. rustyknife, be sure to let us know when you get your knife.

Thank you Keith, for your quick response. I also want to make the update on this thread, but I was late. Thank you and Patrick again!

Rustyknife (, but rustynail is OK too ;-) )

No it's not. I edited my post to correct your user name. Sorry about that.

rustyknife,

A rustynail is a famous cocktail drink and Keith was probably just thinking about Happy Hour is all.. :D :D

But seriously, kudos to Keith for getting involved and going above and beyond to be helping out a fellow blade brother here. IMO, this is precisely the type of great stuff that makes this internet blade community the best place on the planet.

Now I arrived from the post office with my new Outdoor Edge folder. The difference against the old one is only that the new is mounted with two coloured black/green G10 scales. Nice, sharp and locks very hard.
Thank you Keith and Patrick!
