Outdoor knife you wish you would have never bought?

I think most of us would agree that once we've spent our hard earned cash on a knife, we are going to have a tendency to be biased towards it...

So in contrast, what knife have you spent your cash on that you will now admit you don't like, wish you had never spent your money on and would NOT recommend?

For me it's the Blackjack Grunt, the current Chinese model. I had seen the original before, saw the new China version for a whole $25 shipped and figured it would be cool to check out. It has a zero edge convex grind, how bad can it be? Really bad as it turns out. What a POS. To think I could of had a couple more Mora's instead

Becker BK-7. So glad I offloaded it to a rum-soaked forum member  :D.

Also, at the moment, ambivalent about the BK-2.

Don't misinterpret this as slagging Becker Knives. The Machax is my #1 favourite blade of all times.

Doc

Non sawback version (that was the smart part of the purchase)

I still have it, and it is actually a pretty good knife, but I never use it.

I will probably put it on the bay or use it for a truck knife eventually.

My khukrri. i hate this thing! when i first saw this knife design i wanted one, had to have one. bought one, and loathe it. i really don't know why i bought it. its big, cumbersome and (IMO) less useful than an axe, which i carry anyway.

I just don't like it spend huge $$$ on it when I should have stuck with my 25 dollar fiskar.

I'm curious as to why, I'm looking into getting one (seems to be perfect for my uses, apart from not loving the handle material), but I like to know the weaknesses of my tools as well as their strengths. Thanks!

i have no regrets...:D i love them all...:o

i actually have not gotten a knife, that i really regret buying so to say.. there have been a few that just were'nt for me... so i pass them on...:)

++ on that, there's a few that I've got that don't get the use as others, like the buck nighthwak, but it makes a great wire cutter, window smasher to keep in the car......

A folder I don't want to name.
Apparently heat-treated improperly, easily bended nor cuts well.
But the shape, fit and finish of this knife is quite good that I haven't dumped it yet. :D

Since then I began to make knives myself and never bought one.

Man, this is a really great thread. I can see this leading to some really good info on some knives. Most guys wont badmouth a knife they own...cause they want to sell it on the forums...kinda makes for a tough sale, " this knife sucks..anybody want it?":p
Right now...I am thinking all my customs and high dollar knives are unnecessary. I keep trying to make myself sell them.....but damnit, as soon as I do...I will win the lotto, and kick my own ass.:D

I have owned them all my friends...and all of them have there bad points...I am suprised at Docs take on the BK-2. I have been thinking about one.
Now, using my Mora 510...I REALLY wonder about my Skookums...and others. I guess the worst is the Tracker ( I know, I know...;)) Another is a Nimravus, Buck 110, quite a few Bark Rivers...like the Golok, man it looked a heck of alot bigger in the photos....anyway, looking forward to everyones input. Gene

Edit: I forgot..many of the BUSSE family...first off, whats with the choil thats a mile long...now I will say, The FBM and the Gamewarden are 2 REALLY awesome knives...some of the best ever made or designed...but so many others in the family...just dont work. Oh, the Sarsquatch was another really GREAT knife.

Same here. Haven't really hated any. But some just didn't fit.

I will say the one knife I wanted to love but didn't was the Bravo 1. Too thick and heavy for it's size, blocky handle and thick edge.

Without doubt these.

I bought a bunch of them to hand out when they first came on the market. I thought they'd be like a shorter version of the Martindale #2. How wrong I was. Whilst it is fair to say it takes some effort to coax the best from a #2 it is safe to say abandon hope with these. Truly nasty. Absorbing the cost of a mistake is one thing, swallowing embarrassment in front of an audience that had waited in eager anticipation for theirs sucks. I fell from grace that day. I still have my one somewhere – the thick, buckled, ill-conceived POS serves as a reminder to examine in private before announcing.

Gerber Stag Freeman, USA, S30V. This knife looks great, from a distance.

The closer you get, the rougher it looks. Grinds don't match-side to side. All surfaces look like they were done by a monkey using a belt sander - uneven and rounded corners. Nothing matches from side to side.

I can't understand Doc's ambivalence about the BK-2, either. He really hasn't said anything at all, just that he was ambivalent.

I can’t imagine anyone not loving a BK-2, but that’s just me... which is a good thing, because if everybody was me, my apartment would be super crowded, and everyone would be named Bob: it would be really confusing. But we’d all have BK-2’s, which would be pretty neat.

Since not everyone is me, there are some people who — for reasons beyond my comprehension — do complain about the BK-2. Unbelievable, I know, but there it is. Just no accounting for taste, I guess.

Incredibly, there are people who don’t like what I think are the most comfortable grips on any production knife that I’ve ever handled. Some think the grips are too big, others too small, some don’t like the shape or the material. I guess people have their own reasons for liking or not liking the grips. To me, grips are the most personal things on a knife, and as far as the grips on the BK-2, I love them, and what’s more, every single Bob here loves them; who could possibly argue with that?

I’ve heard that there are people who think the BK-2 is too thick, or too heavy, but I find that almost impossible to believe. This knife is just right: the right length, the right thickness, the right weight, and it handles like a dream. All that beautifully crafted from what I think is probably the best 1095 CroVan steel on the entire planet: can’t ask for more than that.

Still, some people — they know who they are — complain about this knife. These are some of the same people who would complain if they were hung with a diamond studded velvet rope. Now that has to tell you something, doesn’t it: some people just can’t be pleased.

Others of us though, just love the BK-2. It’s all the general purpose, take it to the apocalypse dance knife you could ever want.

So now you’ve heard both sides of the issue, as presented by me. The only way to actually tell, though, is to try one. You’ll love it, or my name isn’t...

What I'm trying to say, is get the BK-2. It's like a Mora on steroids.
