Outdoor/survival/backpacking SAK...

The Huntsman or Fieldmaster are excellent choices. I always have a Huntsman in the rucksack during camping trips, mainly for the scissors, but in the pocket I usually carry a bit thinner alox SAK. During my last camping trip I have carried a Pioneer, before it was mostly a Soldier.

The Farmer is also very popular and a great SAK for outdoors. During day hikes I don't want to carry too much weight and then only the Farmer or the Electrician Plus goes with me. The Electrician Plus is almost like the Farmer, but has the can opener replaced by a sheep foot blade, which is a very nice tool actually.

Well I picked up two used-in-good-condition Huntsmans on ebay for pennies on the dollar, so for outdoor users I think these will take over the primary role. I just got my Camillus Eagle knife in the mail today and man is that one sweet!

The Huntsman is the way to go... or a Leatherman Blast, which is what I replaced my PST with recently, and it isn't a move I regret. Has both the items you are looking for, as does the Gerber Resolve. But if you are going to add to your PST, then the Huntsman fits the bill quite nicely.

The Farmer gets my vote. Everything you need with nothing you don't. Got me out of plenty pinches in the city and woods alike. Let's face it, if you ever get into a bad spot you are going to probably have to rely on the knife you have on/with you at the time. The Farmer is great insurance for those little surprizes life throws at you simply because it is so carryable and very likely to be in your pocket at any given time. The knife you left on your nightstand because it is not very convienient/comfortable to carry is going to be of zero use when you get in a tight spot. My Farmer is ALWAYS on my person and only leaves my pocket when it's time to hit the bath/rack. This is just this guy's opinion. YMMV.

My Huntsman is always with me on hikes/camping trips. Somtimes combined with a bigger folder or fixed blade.

Thanks for all your help guys, I got my 4 dollar used Huntsman in the mail today. This really is the ideal classic style SAK for woods bumming. After some sharpening, cleaning and oiling it's basically new. The Spartans are now officially my city slickin' SAKs, while the Huntsman will remain in my outdoors kit. Man, it's amazing what you can get for your money, even these days, if you know how to shop...

Certainly. I received a Victorinox Ranger today, only 10 euros and very light used. Oiled it, put a new toothpick in it and it is ready to go.

My Vic Explorer ist always in my rucksack.

The Vic Farmer is always in my Jacket.

For outdoor use I also take the Farmer.
