I thought it would be nice if we have an Outdoors Picture of the Day thread.

Here are some basic guidelines:

1) Keep it outdoors themed
2) Only show a picture that you, yourself, took
3) Keep it down to one... or, at most two, pictures per day
4) While it would be nice if it was recent, it doesn't have to be
5) Everyone can show a picture, each day
6) Discussion of the pictures is okay
7) Please don't unnecessarily include pictures when you quote someone

I'll start. Here's a picture I took on Friday of a great horned owl chick:

Thanks, Chris.

TO,

Thank you. I used a Canon 600 f/4 IS with a teleconverter.

Now, let's see yours!

A fine fungus. At first I thought it was a red belted polypore, but on closer inspection... I'm not sure what kind of polypore that is.

Do you know?

Bear,

I especially like the third. In the future, try to pick your one strongest choice each day, instead of showing several.

I do know, or at least did know, darn the name escapes me at the moment. Let me sleep on it and get back to you.

Mike,
I'd like to suggest a ground rule if you don't mind:
When quoting a post with a picture, remove the image from your post. I see this happening a lot in many threads and its just redundant and slows down the loading of the overall page.
