Outdoors Picture of the Day

Mr. Evolute,

Thank you for a great idea. I was admiring your owl picture and I noticed one of the things that set it off was the border, so I started experimenting. I think you have added a whole new dimension to my personal pictures. For example:

I took this one a few weeks ago, it's about half an hour from where I live.

Great shots all around. Took me a few seconds - but that shot of the mantis is pretty cool.

What a wonderful idea Evolute - Also loved the way the texture of the owl down was captured. I'm afraid I'm bit too quick on the draw of posting threads of my picts and have exhausted some of my recent ones.

Here is a slighter older shot and will try to stick to the 'more recent' guideline further in the future. I hope this thread keeps gathering moss so to speak!!!

Thanks. I was going to crop and resize so it was more apparent (the full size image is a good bit larger) but I haven't had any coffee yet this morning so I decided that the photo as shown is good enough. :)

Love the thread; it is always fun to see nature and wildlife shots from around the world.

Heres a couple of pics from yesterday. A turtle that is missin a leg, and a sky shot......

kindy grainy but i didn't have my real camera that day, taken with a point and shoot with panorama function.

NIce thread. Afraid this one's from last fall/winter. A few miles southwest of Warrenton, Virginia. Can't wait for the flowers to start popping up. Weird spigot-shaped cloud towards the right...

Great idea. Mine's from Zion N.P., yesterday. No color correction, just a bit of sharpening.

I like this thread !

I'm off work today so I'm getting last week's roll developed - I'm sure I'll find something in there to share. Till then, here's one from last weekend. It's odd, but the more comfortable I get with my camera, the more I seem to be interested in trying to capture textures and shapes rather than complete images. This was taken as a 'reference' shot with a phone while hiking, but I want to go back with my 35mm. Any tips ?

This thread has really taken off, overnight and this morning. I am glad to see so much picture sharing.

Hi, Doc.

You are welcome.

Borders can be used different ways. Over time, and with some experimentation, I have settled on a rather plain border style which is not designed to be decorative, in of itself (for me, it is all about the picture, so I want no distractions), but merely designed to set the picture apart from the web page, to minimize visual confusion.

The border you've chosen looks good with your picture. It is a different kind of border, intended to be decorative, to, as you say, "add a new dimension" to your pictures.
