• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

Here's a pic from todays hike, not a great picture by any means, but what seems impressive to me is that this tree is still very much alive (see the inset)

It may be alive, but I wouldn't set up a camp below it.:(

What kind of tree is it?

Yikes, that's a really good question. I was so surprised by this tree I didn't really stop to figure out what it is :o:o:o The pic I took of the whole tree is so wide angle and doesn't give me enough detail to identify it. Perhaps this picture might give someone with more knowledge a clue:

From the picture, to me, it kind of looks like a Butternut (Juglans cinerea).

Here's a picture of a Butternut I took yesterday. For years, it has been limping along, but I guess, it finally bit it. We have a problem with Butternut in this area (maybe yours too). I think it's some kind of blight or something.

The outline and the bark look similar.
