Outstanding in the Field

Love the FK A1, it's the most fun to chop and baton with of all my knives. Even more fun than my kukris!

With 6mm blade stock it's like a small hatchet.

My most used "filed knife" has been a Busse SJTAC with a crazy sharp convex grind. But for the past year or so it's been supplanted by the Carothers Basic Field Knife. Roughly the same size blade, but about an inch and a half shorter and more ergonomic handles. I like the CPK basic field knife more than the FK2.

There are, literally, thousands of knives that will work well out in the "field". Thousands. Any decently made fixed blade knife with good steel and of an appropriate size for the task will work about as well as another designed and made similarly. Same with well designed folder considering their potential limitations. This is another BF instagram category topic. And, as usual, only a limited number of knives pictured look like they've ever even been used, especially out in the "field".

Good observation. I do use my knives. The knives I pictured- one is well used, but the other is brand new from Mr. Erickson. It’s been on order for months. Don’t you worry….. it will get a lot of attention soon!
