Outstanding in the Field

There are, literally, thousands of knives that will work well out in the "field". Thousands. Any decently made fixed blade knife with good steel and of an appropriate size for the task will work about as well as another designed and made similarly. Same with well designed folder considering their potential limitations. This is another BF instagram category topic. And, as usual, only a limited number of knives pictured look like they've ever even been used, especially out in the "field".
I don’t use my knives in the field very often. A few have been carried on me daily for months and have experienced daily tasks that would make “field” knives blush. I’ve been carrying the DEK2 since I’ve received it from CPK. It is the best daily carry fixed blade I’ve ever experienced.

The look of the Tex Creek moves me.
I’ve got to stop looking at these threads.
I am undisciplined.

The Tex Creek is one I have always wanted. Mostly the Tex Creek XL

He’s getting there - need to work on return call a little . That pup can fly once he gets to open space. I could use 1/3 of his energy.
Do you guys have dog parks?
Where I live, it's pretty nice that way.
The first 3 years we went literally almost daily...

Having a "lab mix" I wanted to make Damn sure I was socializing her with Lots of people and dogs

100% agreement about socializing. I have been taking the pup everywhere since I got him. Grocery stores, post office, people’s houses - he’s going to start coming to work with me this week hopefully. Bad ass, well behaved and fun to have around. There will many pics posted..

It has to be able to withstand lateral forces (such as awling) and impacts while also being able to slice. Wood working abilities are a must. It can be used to make other tools.

I don’t recommend using your knife to dig holes, but a hunting knife simply can’t do that well. A camp knife is a poor substitute for a small shovel, but it can substitute for one of you don’t want to carry that extra weight for one task. A proper field knife can break down a log. A knife optimized for breaking down boxes (think thin geometry and wear resistant) might survive that, maybe.

A “field knife” is a generic term for a knife that can do many things well enough, it’s economical. Rather than excelling at a speciality, such as a santoku. Something along those lines. This is why puukkos and straight handled spear points work so well as general purpose field knives. Mors Kochanski covers all of this in his literature.

This type of additude is getting annoying. You’re literally on a forum for knives is it surprising people love showing off and discussing knives even if the choices that are being discussed would make little difference than a 50$ cold steel?

On no some knives don’t look worn enough! As if satin finishes on blades show wear easily. I have knives I’ve carried 10 years that would look new unless the sunlight hit the blade perfectly.

LOL. Some are so easily triggered by a comment that's outside of their worldview. You guys crack me up. Grow a pair. BTW, it's "attitude"... ;)

For when your really need to cut up the field.

And the serious contribution to the thread, this is representative of what I carry in the field.

Maybe I'll grab more pictures later. Woods and field knives are among my favorite, though that's quite a broad category, of course.
