Overbuilt, heavy duty, sharpened prybars

Zt301 is a brick n I love it. Dpx is awesome love the pry bar on end. Bound to save a tip or two

The only 'real' "overbilt, heavy duty, sharpened pry bars" that have been posted so far. ;)

It's delusional to think any folding blade can actually 'pry'.

I forgot to mention it before, but the Caswell EDX is one of my all-time grail knives, and I would definitely put it in this category, though the blade is kept thin enough to slice, the tip on it is reinforced very well for any heavier work that needs to be done, and the lock is insanely strong for a folding knife, while allowing it to be very ergonimic in the hand without an exposed clip.
Probably the only knife I would ever carry tip-down of my own volition ;)

I got a chance to handle one a few months ago and the urge to scream "take my money" was overwhleming, but I didn't have the funds to pull it off, and probably won't for quite a while. Oh well, that's why we call them grails, huh?

Also, I agree with this gernerally, though in a dire situation, most well-made folders will manage some light prying (could still kill the knife). Still not something I would ever choose to do with my knife unless I had no other choice.

I do generally have a small to medium prybar on me or in my car, so it's usually not an issue.

I agree...
Now here's one that folds;)

Who taught you guys what a folding prybar is:confused:;)

I have TRIED to stop buying the prybars. I still have a NIB SMF with a 0.190" thick blade sitting in my safe, but have no designs on carrying it. I would prefer to top out on blade thickness to 0.140-0.150" or so. For me, that's plenty.
I have had two Benchmade 0275 manual folders...tan and black. Perhaps one of the finest folders I've ever owned; really sorry I sold them. And, now, the MAP pricing means I won't buy another.

Most times, I'm carrying my sensible combo of a Sebenza and a slipjoint (usually a SAK of some sort). On the weekend, or other days that I feel like it, I carry my PD#1 SnG and to be fair, this knife has really opened up my mind to "overbuilt" knives. It's really not obscenely thick either, it cuts everything I need to with ease. I honestly have no use for it's capabilities 99% of the time, but it's fun knowing there aren't many reasonable tasks it can't handle. Hell, it can handle unreasonable tasks too. Fun knife, I enjoy it. I don't prefer overbuilt and beefy folders, but I certainly appreciate them more now.

"It's delusional to think any folding blade can actually 'pry'."
There's a video somewhere of a ZT 300 busting apart nailed together boards, no problem for that knife. Would I do it? Nah, I have a stanley pry bar for that. But the ZT shrugged it off no sweat.

I just watched this video http://youtu.be/Uvd2rdaD9Ck and debated coming over to GKD to start a discussion on this very same topic. Then I saw someone already started it lol.

What I find laughable is that the author makes fun of overbuilt folders while refusing to admit that the Strider he owns and proudly showing off is an overbuilt, tactical folder. Also, if I was the owner of that Chaves that he's dogging the whole time, I'd promptly call him and tell him to send the damn thing back to me unsharpened. I personally wouldn't buy a knife with a skull pocket clip, but it just rubbed me the wrong way. "You're an immature operator wannabe with awful taste, but I'll gladly take your 40 hard earned bucks to sharpen it and promote my service and will also use your vomit-inducing knife as a showpiece to earn myself video views for my own profit."

Do I carry an Adamas everyday? No. But it's damn cool to own and enjoy and use on the weekends. By the way, the guy owns an Adamas too (unless he's sold it) and doesn't even mention it in the discussion. Isn't the Adamas the frickin epitome of overbuilt?? So I took it as "well if I own an overbuilt, tactical folder that mall ninjas and military personnel might carry, then it's not an overbuilt, tactical folder that mall ninjas and military personnel might carry". The video is pure hypocrisy and borderline knife "Fudd-ism". If you know what a Fudd is in gun culture, you know what I'm talking about.

I mean I just sold my Strider that I was pretty convinced was an overbuilt, tactical folder. I just thought it was cool to own and I don't even own a tac vest :( Sold it because in the end I didn't like the ergos nor how it carries in pocket plus I wanted an Umnumzaan instead. Maybe I'm just an idiot and don't know what overbuilt is. I have no YouTube channel therefore I'm obviously no expert.

I'd like to know others' thoughts on what overbuilt is to them. Others commenting in the video tout they don't even need locks because the cutting force is opposite the pressure on the lock anyway. Why do people hate variety? Why must we all only carry a Douk Douk and spend $15 for it just because you do? Why do people hate everything that anyone else buys? Ok, rant over. :o

So you're saying I can potentially replace my prybar for work with a ZT0300?
Sounds like you've never actually used a prybar for actual prying...

I like my knives just like how I like my women, Thick with curves ;) oh wait... this isn't the cove :foot:

No I'm not saying that man, I've pried more with one of those Stanley's than I care to mention. I'm saying that if you HAD to, you could use a folding knife.

dotDefender has allowed me to post the following:

I have a number of beefy folders. I consider the HEST 2.0 and Grayman Dua to be my brutal use folders. I also EDC the Dua some.

The 561, Sebenza, etc. are a definite click below....maybe 'hard' use. My experiences with bearings in extreme cold have not been good.
